Ther eseems ot be a bit of stink about the cup finals featuring Aberdeen & Rangers and then Celtic and Hearts at the end of October. Aberdeen seem to have been given the lunchtime kick of at Hampden giving only 14 minutes from the arrival of the first train from Aberdeen into Glasgow and kick off! Scotrail have been asked to help out.
Perhaps the HST cold ride to the rescue ;)

Could be a cheap way of getting the old interiors stripped out from a GWR set.

It's worse than that - the game starts at 12pm so they'd be 15 minutes late into GLQ, never mind Hampden!

ScotRail have been known to provide football specials on these services, not actually a bad shout to test the HSTs on such services.

Even getting all those people from Edinburgh to and from Glasgow that late on an evening will be fun!

A notably swift Twitter comment from SR, amongst the rest of it. Perhaps a slick PR machine covering their bases.

of course the SFA didn't speak to Scotrail. Why bother about the fans?

Might struggle for a guard.

Hire in an LNER/XC set and crew?

That gets more complicated, as you couldn't run it into Queen Street (2+7 at most, on P7). You could run it via Coatbridge and into Central (as SR did during the Queen Street high-level blockade a few years back), but then they'll need some route conductor, and you take ~20 minutes longer (IIRC), though that might be justified by the fact that they'll all be heading across to Central anyway so the time cost isn't so bad.

exactly - they need to be at Central so the train may as well go to central. Obviously all this is very wibbly!

I'm sure these HSTs would have to be suitably signed off for passenger service before they can convey any passengers

Hire trains from charter companies of suitable lengths, run them to Mount Florida, sorted

Errr, Smethwick!

Now, I have zero interest in football and know even less about it but even I believed that it's got nothing whatsoever to do with fans these days.
I was under the distinct impression Sky and BT Sport decide when matches are played.......

Although if it was a football special, they could run it direct to Mount Florida.
That gets into stock clearance issues, though! Are HSTs cleared to Mount Florida (maybe, given XC)? And they'd need to reverse somewhere (probably Central!), unless they ran all the way out via Hamilton Circle (would be very surprised if they were cleared there!) with the extra time that entails. You also limit yourself to six coach trains if you do that.

They must ran around there in the old VXC /IC days .

On the whole I presume it's still a diversion route for the XC routes from Glasgow (which are sometimes HST operated)? But Hamilton Circle?

This month's Scottish League Cup semi-final arrangements could be changed - with one heading to Edinburgh - amid criticism of the original plans.

The Scottish Professional Football league is considering moving Hearts' meeting with Celtic to Murrayfield on Sunday afternoon, 28 October.

It comes after Hampden Park Limited waived its right to host both games.

The problem initially arose due to two factors; firstly both Celtic and Rangers are playing Europa League matches on the previous Thursday meaning their semi-finals can only be staged on the Sunday, and secondly the SPFL has a contractual obligation to stage any semi-finals involvong either Celtic or Rangers at Hampden Park.

The issue was raised today at Holyrood: it is not clear if this prompted a change or not but Hampden Park Ltd has agreed to release the SPFL from its obligation and negotiations are now taking place to stage the Celtic v Hearts match at Murrayfield allowing the Rangers v Aberdeen match to be staged at Hampden with a late afternoon k.o. So it would appear that common sense will prevail.

@Shaw S Hunter - sensible news however the Rangers v Aberdeen game still needs a better kick off time

The question I suppose is now back to the broadcasters. Do they have strong preferences or is there still scope for flexibility? The original times were always going to cause problems regardless of where the matches are played but with different venues in play there is no need for such a big time difference.

i think the main driver was the need to play both games on the same day at Hampdon Park.
