I'm interested in the above job, which combines one role as a Train Service Controller on the Overground north London line with a Network Rail Train Running Controller role. It appears the working location is also split in two, based in Southwark when working for Arriva, and in Upminster when working for NR. Does anyone have any familiarity with this job or either the Arriva control centre at Palestra house or Upminster IECC? What would the shifts and salary be or this type of role?

Also, the advert lists 'Previous control room experience and knowledge of Control IT systems' as 'strongly desired'. Any ideas what level of experience they are after? I am competent but not highly experienced. Any insight would be appreciated!

To me it sounds like they want someone who’s working in a control setting currently and looking to progress/ someone who’s say more in a customer service controller job etc.

if you think your competent then you need to make sure you highlight that on your cv/application

Presumably they are looking for someone with working control knowledge at perhaps a station level or more on the customer information side of control. The usual IT software probably (CCF, Trust, Darwin, Tyrell etc.) I imagine the salary will be around the £50K mark (likely some form of London allowance too), but it often varies depending on TOC plus the role seems to be split with NR.

Great, thanks for your responses guys. It can be hard to assess the seniority levels when you're not familiar with the job titles in different TOCs! But this sounds like a perfect step up for me, so I've put in an application.
