Train passing red signal to enter sidings?

I've just seen 720553 apparently passing a red signal leaving platform 2 southbound at Bishop's Stortford, crossing the up line and entering the sidings. Is it standard to authorise trains entering that sidings to pass a red signal? How come? It's also possible I misread what line the signal is supposed to apply to. Photo shows the train as it began to accelerate out of the platform, before passing the signal.

You can't quite see it due to the position of a post on the platform, but there is a position light showing proceed to the left of the signal. You can just see the 'S' route indication showing.

Position lights are used to authorise shunt/permissive movements. The train hasn't passed a signal at danger.

There appears to be a position light to the left of the main aspect which is obscured by the lamp post in your photograph.

Ah yes indeed there is. That clears that up then. I was looking at possibly the only angle on the platform where you can't see it!
