Good luck to you all. Been reading this with interest. Those of you who start training don't panic. I have been on the underground 9 years now started off as a Csa on stations and been driving now for 2 and a half years and love it best job I have ever done. If any of you need any help with training drop me a message will be more than happy to help. The best bit of advise I will give you all for training is the 3 weeks in the class Room pay attention. Do not jump to far ahead only revise what you have done learnt that day if you jump ahead you will confuse yourself. As your all external it might take a bit longer for you to pick up terminology but just relax and enjoy training. Once you get the class room out the way the fun will begin with stock training again that is enjoyable to a certain degree lol. I had to learn 3 stocks where as all other lines bar mine have 1 stock and I had to learn network rail rules and regulations so training for my line was longer. Like I said well done to all you successful and welcome to the tfl family. All you still waiting stay positive any help send a PM

I went for my AC1 ..I did only 10 in Error Finding, I was too slow. I did very well in others.
Thanks for the advice. I had a call yesterday with the good news and start on the 9th May if I'm passed fit at the medical. I cannot wait to start and await with a great deal of interest which line I will get. At the assessment centre and also at the interview, I was at least double the age of everyone else! So almost a lifetime of interest in LU has finally turned into actually getting the uniform on and doing my bit. I'm hoping my sleep patterns will return to some sort of normality soon!
It takes up to 10 working days to hear back. There is no harm in phoning them.
you dont want to keep annoying them now constant phone calls is not always a good thing if i am honest. Lets remember they have more than your assessments to mark lol
just sit tight you will hear one way or another eventually give them time

no problem mate glad you passed and welcome. Age is just a number so that does not reflect anything in the long run. If your good enough for the job then thats all that matters and you met the requirements so well done.
Had my AC2 the other day. Unfortunately I didn't pass. Think I met the benchmark in the rVce test & customer service, results competencies but fell short in the safety & technical ones.
So CSA it is for me for now! Happy to be part of the company, really impressed with how it all works. Possibly Train Ops in the future if i'm still interested, atleast I know i'm good enough to pass the written tests!

References are requested from a company called Sterling checkback, very soon after you get your offer. Ask for previous 3 years and any gaps in employment etc. They then contact the references for a satisfactory reply and/or ask for further info/payslips etc if needed.

Trainee Train Operator salary is £24,133; increasing to £30,166 on completion of the Operational Procedures Training, although I'm not sure how this works in practice. For existing staff currently on either TfL or LUL contracts you will continue to receive your current salary if this is higher than the training salary.
This will rise slightly though as these are still the 2014 salaries, the 2015 pay deal has not yet been implemented (this will be 1%+£500 increase) and the 2016 amount (1.3% increase) will also become due by the time you have started.

Haha that's because I went through the procedure a few weeks ago for CSA. It's the same for train ops though.
You done CSA for 7 years? Nice one! Was your first application for train ops 2 years ago or had you tried to get in earlier?

Just came across this thread very interesting read, got my AC2 next week and just wanted to prepare as best possible. I have briefly read the bullet points for the competency questions... Do you need to provide a STAR answer for each bullet point... Any tips at all would be greatly appreciated.

Only just found this thread after trying to find what the Technical Competency - Fault Finding involves, wasn't sure if it was another STAR question or an actual physical exam, but looking at some posts from people who have already taken it looks like it's another question based on previous experience?
Can anyone confirm please, and if possible a rough idea of the example you gave?
Also for people who are starting training how is that being achieved, is it weekly daytime training?

It is a competency question. Just like your preparation for the other competencies, think of an example where you have found a fault in something and how you remedied the situation.
As far as I'm aware, the first three weeks are in the classroom M-F 9.00 to 5.30'ish and then you go off to your allocated line to learn about your rolling stock and line training. Those hours i really don't know. You may follow your instructors hours at that point.

Stock is office hours also and there will also be hiking and other refresher/review sessions that will also be during office hours.
When you go out on the road with an Instructor Operator then you will be following the shift pattern they work; different instructors work different shifts so you will probably have multiple ones to cover the different moves at different times of the day; this will include at least a week of nights as some moves are only done on nights. There will also be a period of release as well where the instructor choses the hours based around moves that are required, and also the training train if this is felt necessary.

When I did mine, the guy running the whole event asked us to remind the interviewers to ask those "supplementary" questions as they were forgetting to do so. So if they didn't ask you then I wouldn't worry to much.
