Thanks mate...Hopefully i'll receive an invite to AC2 soon enough. I'm interpreting from the posts here that AC2 may be slightly easier than AC1??

Can someone clarify if you guys were interviewed on the first assessment?

No interview for the AC1. The AC1 is purely tests. With the AC2 you have the rVce test followed by a competency based interview

I have the first assessment and attempting to prepare as I only have a few days to do so.

I am reading through the practice material now and have some questions:

1. Is the understanding and following information part similar to the practice?
2. Is the Error ID in the same valve format? I just ordered a book on mechanical comprehension but don't want to sit and waste time learning about pulleys when I don't need to! I done OK with only 2 wrong on this part.
3. I have the SCAAT tool from here, is each one 30 seconds? I can only get the 7th line roughly on each one.

So nervous, this is a life long dream of mine since I was a child.

2. No it isn't but that doesn't matter. It is the same principle in the real test so no amount of looking at pulleys will help in any way.
3. They do not tell you how long you have for each page. Keep going until they tell you to stop.

This seems promising, I can imagine the hard part is not trying to rush but obviously you dont want to be relaxed. I have scaat tests printed all over the place at the moment

I had my AC2 on Tuesday and I am over the moon that I got the phone call telling me I had been offered a place !

Found out very fast within 2 days ! I start my training mid April and I am looking forward to it !

Congrats! As I still haven't heard back from my AC2(Monday), I'm assuming that means I've been unsuccessful. The only thing I can think of is I told them in the interview I have a longer notice period. So wouldn't be able to start mid April Anyway.

Pattern here seems to be that if your successful you here within two working days. Otherwise you get an email in the next week. But I'll have to wait and see.

I have my medical at the end of this month ! Exciting times and my notice is period is nil I can leave pretty much whenever

I was waiting like you when the first batch on AC1 invites were sent out. I eventually got an e-mail for AC1 invite, this was around the time people were either getting offers/rejections for AC2. The last e-mail they sent out to you did say they'll be in contact within two weeks, so that should be by Monday. All the best friend.

Probably, but by the sounds of it they have people who passed SJT/AC1 that are just waiting for AC2 places, presumably if they don't fill up with what they need this round then they'll move them through.

They're also advertising internally for any drivers wanting to move from full time to part time.

Thanks mate, how do you know about the internal drivers moving to part time? Some one mentioned that TfL were going to recruit full time soon, don't know if that's internal or external though.

Hi, new here but been keeping up-to-date with this thread. Got my AC2 on Wednesday and very nervous for the interview portion. Never liked competency based interviews! Any tips guys?

The tip is to prepare! You have been given a list of competencies and you should prepare several examples for each. You can list them on prompt cards as you can take those in with you.

Can't offer much more advise than this. I didn't take any promt cards in mainly because I felt I would find it distracting but might be worth it just for that 'oh god' moment. At least take something in with STAR written on and what it means so you can follow this when you're answering questions.

The key thing is to prepare more than one example per competency. You might have a really good example for customer service, but it might not be suitable for the question they ask.

Also try not to reply on prompt cards. My interviewer said that some people end up simply reading the card, rather than properly answering the question.

Had my AC1 last week and I didn't pass. Thought I did well on the tests mind you, but that's understandable, only got two hours of sleep beforehand and was maybe a little too cocky in not going beyond a mere skim of the practise material.

The tests were challenging though compared to the mainline train drivers tests at enhanced standards, and the signaller tests. Good luck to those still in the running, all the best!

Lol, fret not for me old chap. I've got a job lined up already with South West Trains, I start in two weeks. Like you, this was an old application for me. I definitely was taking this application seriously though, just didn't do well on the tests. I've been through railway recruitment many times, so something like this isn't the end of the world for me.

Btw drazky, like I said I've passed the mainline trainee driver tests with MTR last year, and also done the signaller one with Network Rail, and to answer a previous question of yours, the TfL tube operator tests were by far the hardest IMO. Not hard as in mighty difficult, but it's definitely more challenging than the other assessments. Preparation is key.
