Train Operator existing heart condition

Hi All, I just got through and offered a preconditional contract at TFL as a tube operator. I suffered a minor heart attack in mid 2013, one artery blocked, stent placed. I was given the all clear and have had no ticker related issues ever since. I was a smoker, which was the main cause. I am on medication taking four pills a day (blood pressure and cholesterol control) my health is in tip top form since the procedure I changed my life style lost good few stones. I am in my early 40'd and a sports person actively participating on daily basis due to my current work (sports related physically involved in training athletes) I have now got the medical screening to go through and I am petrified to loosing the offer due to this...can someone please explain to me if this will cause an issue or jeopardise the offer? We as a family really depend on this job. Any help and advice is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance

As someone with a heart condition (but whilst I do safety critical work it isn’t in the rail industry) I am fairly confident that you will not have any issues here. If your heart trouble was caused by an ongoing issue that is unknown then it would be problematic, but as they know the cause, and you have done lots to improve your health (well done and keep it up) then I see no reason why you should have any trouble at all.

Remember, you’ve had heart surgery, the medical industry knows a heck of a lot more about your heart than they do most other people’s, if they were worried the risk of further heart attacks were greater than normal they would have told you so.

Agree. You may have to go for a medical, this will confirm the good work you've done to improve your health and I'd suggest you bring it up at the interview. Looks good if you show willing.

I know on National rail lines having a stent after MCI is allowed. Just be honest especially with the associated medication...

As the previous posts say you shouldn't have a problem ,just tell them everything. I'm a driver of 30 years , suffered a serious heart attack 15 years ago . Had stents fitted and like yourself on four tablets a day . On returning to work had the usual medical including an ECG and back to driving duties. I did have a treadmill test during my rehabilitation which they said they would have insisted on but chances are you too have had one . Even though I was an established driver I'm sure everything will be fine and I can't see it being a problem for a new starter .
