My stepdaughter bought a non refundable ticket for a train from Cottingham to Brough yesterday evening, however the train never showed up although it wasn't officially cancelled. Could someone tell me how do we go about reclaiming the fare please?

What time was this train scheduled for?

Ten past 8, it was showing as delayed until 2037 but never arrived at Cottingham.

It did run but 74 minutes late, calling at Cottingham at 2124.

However NRCoT condition 30.1 provides that:

You may return an unused Ticket to the original retailer or Train Company from whom
it was purchased, where you will be given a full refund with no administration fee
charged, if you decide not to travel because the train you intended to use is:
• cancelled, or
delayed, or
• rescheduled from that in Published Timetable of the Day after you have purchased a
Ticket or Tickets, or
• your reservation will not be honoured

Note it doesn't say what constitutes "delayed", but there'd be no debate that 74 minutes clearly does!

Therefore you should go back to the retailer's customer services and ask them for a refund on that basis. Make it clear that they did not travel. You'd probably get away with sticking in a Delay Repay claim which would give you the same full refund, but that isn't the proper way (that's only if you did travel) and could cause issues.

Thank you. I ended up picking her up just after 9pm in the end as there was no sign of the train.

Showing as delayed (until 2037) - I presume, on the PIDs at Cottingham? What did it show from 2037?
(At 2016 the display should have changed from 'delayed' to '60 late', since the train was moving again by that time.)
It's always worth checking on RTT to see where a train is and whether or not it's moving.
