Which TOC pays the best and worst for the above jobs(s)?

I think VT pay the most to their TM's, with EC probably close behind.

The worst payer is probably Northern or FTPE. These are just my opinions though I don't know the actual salaries behind the roles!

Virgin pay 37k per annum according to a recent vacancy advert. XC are a shade under 30. Northern pay 25 it said in a recent ad.

VT advertised for a TM at Manchester, going at 38k. East Coast I can't recall off the top of my head, Northern are currently advertising at ~25k, TPE ~25.5k.

XC Train Managers are on about 29k, Senior Conductors about 28k.

EMT pay around £26.5k to Senior Conductors (plus around 3% commission) and slightly more to Train Managers, I believe it's around £30k but without commission on ticket sales - so they pretty much average out.

I can add to that, that SWT commercial guards get about £34k plus area allowance (and commission) whilst non commercial guards are on about £29k. Probably the medium part of the pay scale then.

London midland conductors may also fall in the lower of Guards pay scales?

East Coast Guards are on about £31K now (although not all pensionable, a certain element is attendance allowance), with commission and a little bit of overtime I used to clear £40K without too much trouble most years.

Like many rail jobs it's worth taking the salary with a pinch if salt. Although the salary is what's pensionable and garuntee bear in mind that Sundays can be extra and some TOCs will pay commission for tickets etc.

So it may look like one pays 30 and one 35 but take into account that the lower payer may offer extra for Sundays meaning the difference is much less.

Not to mention that hours can vary. SWT for example employs on 42hr week, Sundays in, whereas FGW employ (as far as I understand, correct me if I'm wrong) on around 35-37, Sunday outside the working week.
