Train manager VTEC- start date, waiting so long

hoping someone can please help or suggest anything as I’m tearing my hair out! I applied last April, passed all the interviews, medical and been offered the job. I’m waiting on a start date. Is it normal to wait this long? Anyone suggest what I can do other than keep emailing.

Unfortunately the hr department at VTEC are pretty appalling at keeping people in the loop. Just read the trainee driver thread, it’s not just you that’s waiting for news.

I assume the day to day stuff shouldn’t be affected , also on their website there are still quite a few vacancies - such as train manager for kings cross. But yes that has worried me , but seeing as I have gone through all the assessment days interviews and medical and have had a job offer , can they really go back on offering me a job ?

Actually , having read into it a job offer is a job offer which I’ve received by email, and there is a case to be fought for if you’ve been offered a job and they retract it. It’s really bad practise for a company to do that and you can fight for some compensation. However I wouldn’t want to scupper any chances of working with the company so it’s a difficult one

An email job offer means nothing. Until you have a signed, legally binding, unconditional job contract, then I am afraid you dont have that job yet. When you sign an offer and meet the contract standards and they still do not give you the job, then you can take action. At the moment, do not raise your hopes into this. Stay patient and have a back up plan.

Hi mate, I am in the exact same position as yourself and going insane. I applied last April and like you was offered the job at beginning of Oct. Had very limited information and finally told last week I am now in a hold pool. Which depot are you waiting for? I am waiting for Doncaster.

Ah finally there’s someone like me and I don’t feel so alone! So you’ll never believe this but I turned down a course I. November because I had booked a holiday, however I never realised I would have to wait so long to hear again. I’ve kicked and kicked myself since then because if I had known how the industry works and the long wait I would have cancelled my holiday.

I have been waiting and waiting for a course date, but like you I received a standard letter saying I was in the talent pool just the other day. Someone I went for an interview with has had to travel to Leeds because there were no vacancies in Doncaster , now I’ve been told there are none in Leeds. Leeds is my chosen depot. Problem with the talent team is they just don’t answer their emails. I had my medical back in October too and so I hope I don’t have to go for another one. Sorry for long response !

My mate also got the job and he is in the exact same position as us two. We have sent numerous emails over the last months to both BW and now LH and neither of us ever get a response! I left my old job as well so am completely in limbo!

Can’t believe you were offered a course, gutted for you! That must make it even more frustrating! I am honestly just going crazy over the whole situation! Every day praying for that email! Do you think it will ever actually happen?

It happened a while back to me sadly. I went through all the testing at the OPC and passed, went to Lawley street for an interview, got told the position is mine, just wait for a start date.

A few weeks later heavy haul lost a load of coal work and had drivers sitting around, so they moved some of them over and any position that were waiting in the background were just that..... waiting in the background

Long since forgotten about and since then I do believe they have taken new recruits rather than go back through the pile (as ownership of Freightliner has changed).

Sadly one of those things but I can’t say it didn’t hurt at the time!!

So I have had some responses from Becky who was saying that she hoped to give us an update soon etc etc , the new woman Lucy has only sent me one email to say that I’m in the talent pool. I do have an HR contact who I intend on contacting to ask exactly why things have changed and I am now in the pool and not just waiting on a start date.

That sucks that you left your old job. I have just been made redundant but I plan on doing some temping whilst I’m waiting. It’s just hard because can’t make any plans or anything.

Just looked at the website and the jobs is for training guards , is that a different job?

I know, along with the fact that all our emails never get a response. No I never did my medical. I was told to provide all my details etc so they could add me to the payroll and that was as far as I got.

Training guards is the same thing. I know someone who was on the November course and he said one of the trainers left so I guess it’s to replace them.
