Train maintainers assistant

Hi, does anyone have any experiences of this role whether good or bad ?

It states it’s mainly shunter driving but also some general maintenance etc.. as the the job title suggests.

Is this regarded as a good career path to take with the opportunity to apply internally for a trainee train driver role in the future ?

Does anyone have experience of the interview for this role and any examples on what to research and what you are likely to get asked ? Would it be similar to that of the trainee train driver interview ?

It's a good job

Very little maintenance other than changing the odd light bulb

It's a good stepping stone to mainline as the testing is the same

Research the company, history, routes.

They will want people who will stay in the role, not interested in hiring people who want to move straight to mainline

Hi everyone, been quite for a while.. back in the game. Applied for this role as well. Anyone know if there any additions to the salary or that is all inclusive, ie. London weighting and other allowances maybe? Will be taking a slight pay cut from current role but I will definitely go if I get it.

I’m really not sure but would be interested to know. I’m guessing it’s just the starting salary. Probably a probation period.

The advertised salary of £39,000 ish is all in, London weighting etc.
There is no training rate, that’s the salary from day one, it doesn’t go up.
