Train in the Disused Holborn Branch

Can anyone tell me what kind of Tube Stock is currently stabled in the Holborn Branch? Or how often it is used? I'm just curious of this uniquely rare example.

There's quite an eerie photograph halfway down this page, showing it parked halfway between Holborn and Aldwych.

I believe since then it's had both cabs painted red, and it occasionally ventures to Northfields depot for maintenance.

Is this purely kept there for TV and Film work, or do LU also use it (e.g. for training?)

I've never known it used for training other than perhaps the ERU.
We have plenty of 1972TS Mk.2 Refurbished to train with and 1967TS Mk.1 and Mk.2 available spare for other training requirements.

If it occasionally gets moved for servicing how come it isn't in active use?

It isn't refurbished and won't run in multiple with refurbished units, therefore wouldn't be allowed in service. I don't think it would have been converted to 'one person operation' either as the Northern Line still had guards when they were withdrawn in 1998/9. There's nothing to say it couldn't run the occasional railtour though, although I'm sure the preserved 1938 stock unit has more novelty value.

The train can be moved within the confines of the branch by prior arrangement, as required by the various agencies (internal and external, such as the ERU and LFB) who use it for training exercises. It's also available for filming. The train may be utilised in this manner as frequently as required, subject to maintenance requirements, staff availability etc.

If the train needs to be moved on or off the branch this has to be done during engineering hours, by way of a possession, because it involves a lengthy procedure concerning the reversal of the points, and also the signals which control access to and from the branch have been decommissioned.

The train could theoretically be used for excursions subject to any necessary remedial work taking place, relevant paperwork being produced and, of course, it isn't otherwise being used for its primary purpose as above.
