Train Guard - East Coast -Leeds

Just applied for this post this morning, however not sure if did the full application process? Have applied with East Coast before and had to answer questions on customer service, difficult situations etc... but this was just your basic CV stuff then submit.

Anybody else gone through this application and just had to submit the bare bones?

This is the first External EC guards position to come up in a long time. Whoever is lucky enough to get this position should be extremely pleased with themselves.

EC Guards generally are promoted from within and have an extremely low turnover.

Why isn't it a flat salary? It's in a range of 26-32k.

Most railway front line salaries are advertised like that to take into account lower trainee wage stepping up to qualified rate. I don't know about EC guards but would hazard a guess of 26k whilst training then either 32k once productive or gradually rising to 32k over the first couple of years being productive.

A year for a TOC is quite a long time. Look at Northern, FGW, Southern Guard positions which come up fairly regularly.

Checked about this vacancy and their is two positions and is also advertised internally and externally.

Anybody heard anything back from their application? I was unsucessful at the assesment day previously with east coast, really hoping to get through this time!

No nothing, but then although I am very interested in the position its not the main focus of my job hunting given there were probably 1000's of applications, so I'm realistic to know that my chances of getting a Job in the Rail industry are fairly small.

Well if their recruitment process worked like that it would be very poor, but on the other hand I think you need to be realistic about your chances.

recieved an email just after dinner time to inform me I will not be invited to interview for the post... onwards and upwards! Northern here I come

I got my 'thanks but no thanks' email just after lunch. A bit gutted actually as I know my application was strong, structured against the person/job spec perfectly. The only reason I can think of is Google maps puts me 1:01 away from leeds station, even though in reality it's a 55min journey. Seems an easy way to short list.

Oh and this email was followed by one from Northern for the conductor role at Blackpool. 'Thanks but.....' - yet I got through to assessments with FTPE as a driver. I don't get it.

I'll keep at it.

Same for me I live near Leeds, the Northern one was Sheffield which possibly I'm a bit marginal distance wise, anyway looks like a Guard Job is not for me, I don't think I will waste any more of my time on this.

I also applied for guard with eastcost and got a rejection email, gutted, even though I have got through stages with tpe and northern so cannot understand it, really want to be a conductor but finding these processes tough and annoying, I know I can do it, bet conductors who have been there a while never had to go through all this???

even more gutted this week, got through northern rail interview and invited to tests next Thursday but then they rang me to say I cannot come and will have to wait 3 more months as I took them in march with tpe, but tpe told me could take with another company under 6 months, its crazy all this these days whats happened to a good old fashion interview and impress the manager... im so gutted only jobs I want to now are in the rail industry. cheers pal

I suspect the east coast one had a hell of a lot of applicants apply, I decided to stick to looking for a job in my existing profession, I don't think I can be bothered with this recruitment process plus if Northern and TPE are potentially looking to start implementing DOO in the next franchise then that's another reason to give the Guards position a miss, and I'm not sure my reactions are quick enough for the Driver Job tests..
