From NRE:
A broken down train is causing disruption at Watford Junction.
Because of this, all services through Watford Junction may be delayed by up to 60 minutes. This will continue until further notice.
London Overground services are not affected.

LO are accepting LM passenger. It seems VT have curtailed 1B83 (2030 ex-New Street) at Watford Junction, I don't know if this is the affected train.

VT's 1A84 (1951 ex Liverpool Lime Street) has been terminated at Kings Langley at 2200.

Having just arrived at Watford Junction on 1G68, on platform 8, we have pulled alongside a Pendolino on plat 9 with its internal lights off, and through the windows to the other side I can see BTP and various other staff and reflections of blue lights.

I am guessing this is 1B83 2030 Birmingham New Street to London Euston http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P50862/2013/07/14/advanced

The TM on 1G68 has announced they think something was dropped from a bridge onto the train. We are 22 down.

1A84 1948 Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston was mentioned earlier in the thread. This is probably stuck behind the train with the fire.

All London-bound services are being held at present - Northbound's are running with delays.

I was actually booked to travel on the 2325, but I was at Euston ridiculously early (blame Rory Bremner rushing through his show in order to catch the sleeper), and was sat outside enjoying the music coming out of Ed's Diner around 2220 when I noticed both the 2225 and 2325 delayed.

Then not knowing what the problem was I asked if I could travel on the 2225 given my train also showed delayed, the TM at the time said we may not leave before 2325 anyway so allowed travel. As it happens we only departed 14 late, and the 2325 may end up being unit-swapped or even cancelled altogether if it was to be formed of the incoming 1B83.

I am informed the unit was 390002.

Can anyone confirm this was to form 1G70, the 2325 which hasn't left Euston yet?

National Rail Enquiries confirms it's the 2030 Birmingham New Str - Euston:

A broken down train is causing disruption at Watford Junction, there is a small fire on the roof of the 20:30 Birmingham New Street - London Euston service.

The fire brigade are on site dealing with the problem.

Because of this, all services through Watford Junction may be delayed by up to 2 hours. This will continue until further notice.

I would be interested to know precisely what the "1X4-" service in Platform 9 of London Euston right now should be/is/was.

No VT out of Euston was cancelled, but the 2325 left Euston 84 down at 0049 and didnt arrive into Wolverhampton until 0313 !!

No it didnt, it was held in the Tring area and got moving 136 down, eventually arrived into Euston at 0047, 143 down !!

Looks like it was held in the platform at Kings Langley for quite some considerable time, though, which presumably is why any confusion arose.

I understand the incoming 1A84 (the delayed train from Liverpool) was supposed to form 1G70 (the 2325 to Wolves), but was apparently set-swapped with one that had arrived not long earlier. There's two minutes between the arrival of 1A84 and departure of 1G70, so a quick turn around for the Wolves-based crew.
