Train Exams

Does anyone know what is involved with DMU exams? I know that there are A Exams - basic, roughly every 20,000 miles or so. Then more detailed B Exams. I think around 40000 miles. What do different TOCs do? As far as I know Transpennine Express focus on 185 unit exams at Manchester although there may be minor Exams at York? Northern work around their main depots but do carry out A Exams at Hull. Hull Trains at Old Oak but minor work at Hull.

At Reading the GWR 16x exam regime is A Exam every 7,500 miles and B Exams are every 15,000.

when exams done on weekly basis i recall a exam southern fleets

2 weeks, b exam weeks, c exam 9-12 weeks
its been a long time since i done this work planning

C exam after works overhauls

on slammers

CPM 4 weeks shed exam 12 weeks epbs had their axles oiled 14 days

an SXP- a full check of a unit was done after a major works overhaul - GO(c4 to C1) repairs.

Must they achieve a grade A-C to pass or have standards been watered down?

No, recently they made a new A* grade that is essentially the same as an A grade, but not enough trains were getting A grades.

Irish Rail ICR's are the following:

48 hour check
A Exam every 4 days
B exam every 41 days, increasing from B1 to B14
