6 month wait im afraid

Structured interview is part of the core assesment

However you may only have to resit this one part but that is down to each individual TOC

From my experience with northern as an external candidate, they would require the whole assessment to be sat again and as you probably know DBS will not retest any element within six months regardless if it was a pass or fail.

It may be different with other TOCs, but that's my recent experience with northern.

Did you get feedback on the written part of the structured interview? I assume you had to write your scenarios before your interview, if you wrote those as you're writing on here then that will have contributed to your fail.

Please use this, I hate to be a snob but your "Txt Spk" hurts my eyes. I understand it's uses on an SMS message as you have 160 characters but you can use as many letters as you like on the forum! honest!

No I did not write it down as ive done on here!!!, I didnt realise punctuation and grammar would be judged on this site!......but the CBI is floored as you can tell them basically anything
To get you thro and it can't be verified and I know of drivers who have embellished the truth just to get thro the CBI......personally i wudnt embellish any story but it jus goes to show that it is floored and and can be cheated.....

Sorry for hurting your eyes poindexter!!!.....:D

I would disagree, the process isn't easy and most people who aren't suited wont get through. And people who do get through will soon find that the course is harder than expected. One of our driver trainers at Stratford makes it perfectly clear to new trainees if you aren't good enough you will be cut! Most contracts are only temporary for the first six months so they can easily get rid of trainees who aren't up to standard. As far as Im aware it has only happened a few times so people getting through the selection process clearly have what it takes.

but my point is in the CBI you can say whatever you want to get thro and it cant be verified.....yes the other tests you cant cheat!!, but the CBI you can!!...and the tests do determine your abilities to train as a train driver so cannot be cheated!....
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
so therefore the CBI is floored!!!....regardless of whether someones gets kicked out months later the CBI can be cheated!.....

Like I said trying to cheat the system won't work. The driver trainer I know said he has no problem in getting rid of people on the course who don't make the grade. But the fact it's rare surely goes to show that the system does work. The fact they are changing the tests though may be as a result of the powers that be seeing that more people who are not suited to the role are getting through.

Jiggy,

The interview is nothing to do with juiciness. Your examples have to be true and have to show - for the emergency question at least - that you remain calm and make logical decisions under pressure.

remain calm and make logical decisions under pressure isnt about rescuing next door
neighbours cat from the tree!!!.....therefore rescuing 10 people from a burning building IS!!
so there you go!!, needs to be juicy!, and the drivers that i know who have made up stories
to get thro are still driving and are good drivers even tho they made up stories in the CBI
goes to prove that the CBI is floored and can be cheated....

Not very easily though. I was grilled on my examples. There is no way I could have made them up in the interview - it would have been spotted a mile off!

Embellish, maybe but made up? No.

I pray to god that I never board a train with Jiggy in the front cab. I will be happy with a much less juicy driver. And one with an ounce of intelligence.

Sorry to say that getting Mrs Marple from next doors cat out of the tree is not and emergency, I would say more like an act of kindness.
Your answers to these questions have to be honest, real and for them to be able to push deeper and further for as much information and specific detail as they possibly can, you have to be able to answer without having to think about it as this should be real. My answers for mine were not so called juicy, just honest very detailed and very specific, the reason why is that they actually happened and took place, I did not help get out fifty people from a burning building, but what I did do shows competency, common sense and how I handled that particular situation/s.

You are right, there is no correct/incorrect answer, but you will be assessed on how you answer and even how you come across in handling the interview.

All just my opinion and I could be totally wrong. Good luck next time round.

Looks like an example of the Structured Interview working perfectly!

As for making things up in interviews, it's not hard to spot. If you carry out the process regularly, you get a pretty good idea of what many jobs involve. Exaggeration stands out.

if you had bothered to read my earlier blogs i said personally i wudnt feel the need to lie in a CBI and i wouldnt....but i know of two good and excellent drivers who passed the CBI with stories that was not there own so it proves my point that you can cheat the CBI with
stories that are not yours and therefore floored.....its not rocket sciemce!!...

The Structured Interview question on an Emergency situation does not have to be some sort of MEGA emergency.

I was really stuck for examples myself. I worked as Station Staff before becoming a (Depot) Driver.

The example I used in the end is hardly comparable to rescuing 500 people in a burning tower.

All I used was a time when a Tresspasser walked onto the track and I contacted the signaller.

Is that really so hard? No, and it got me through the emergency question in the Structured Interview TWICE. But the situation itself is not really something that requires working under immense stress or pressure and having to juggle many things at once. But rather, it's a straightforward thing that any Tom Dick or Harry could have done.
