Train driver jobs

Hello all,

I am new to the forum, I am looking at a career change to become a train driver. I live in Bedford so I have registered on the FCC website for notifications at Bedford I have seen some threads that some trainee recruitment has just passed at Bedford.

I wondered how frequent vacancies come up? I see that most require you to live near to the depot so limits the places you can apply? is this a waiting game now until vancancies appear?

I have started to look at some of the selection process threads and would appreciate any advice or help on anything I should start reading or studying to kick start me off in the right direction.

Find out which FOC / TOC operate in your area, save their recruitment pages to your favourites and check them daily. Generally they require you live within 45 - 60 minutes maximum travelling distance from the depot concerned. As to when they recruit it's anybody's guess! Railway HR departments move slowly and the various stages along the way to securing employment will be drawn out over a few months at least. If you're lucky enough to reach the assessment stages you'll have 2 attempts in your life...fail twice and you won't be considered again. Failure the first time requires a 6 month gap before sitting the assessments again.

I think that's the basics covered, as stated before everything you need to know is on this forum, it just takes a bit of reading and trawling through...good luck!

Thank you for the quick response, I'm going to pull up a pew and Start trawling through the threads. Cheers for the tips. Wow 2 strikes and out seems harsh but I guess there is an air of caution they have to consider especially when public safety is concerned.
