Train Driver Assessment Course

Hello all.

I was just wondering if it is still possible to pay and sit The Network Rail Train Driver Assessment course?

I passed mine in 2007 at the then EWS site in Doncaster.

At the time virtually all operating companies, either freight or passenger didn't particularly like it when they themselves hadn't put you though it!

One can only assume it was to have some type of hold over the participants back then?!

I was thinking about it the other day and was considering doing it again if it was possible?

I figure that if you guys don't know, then nobody will

Am I missing something? You have been through your train driver course or testing, and passed in 2007, but you want to re-do it?? Just because you quite like the idea of doing it again?? Presume you work as a driver or similar still as 2007 isn’t that long ago really. If it’s the psychometric testing you fancy doing again, then you can pay to do it via Railway Competence Group.

He’s done his testing and passed it then obviously didn’t become a driver so now wants to sit the tests again as they are invalid after 2-5 years.

Ahhh.. so he passed testing but failed last interview perhaps, and waited until the testing reset to have another go?? So vague..

Yeah seems like they didn’t like the fact he did it privately, they don’t mind as much now.

Yes, Mgv1349 you are spot on. I sat it in 2007 and found it was not looked on in a favourable light back then by some train operators. In particular two of the passenger operators.

It filtered down to me from one of the assessors that one passenger operator had tried extremely hard in 2005 / 2006 to stop people doing this privately.

I just wondered if it was worth doing it again as I understood that they last for 5 years?!

You seem to have a good handle on this so, any help or a direction to head in Mgw1349 would certainly be appreciated.

I’m not very clued up on it to be honest, I’m a driver my self that’s all. I don’t think company’s have an issue with it being done privately now, what it will do is more than likely give you a better chance of getting an interview quicker if you apply.
