Hello all,
Some advice if possible please?
My wife was coming back from London Euston to Tring on the 5th December around 2230-2300hrs. The train she was on sailed straight through Tring station (a booked calling point), stopped North of the station for a while and then went on to Cheddington, where the guard apologised that due to a tehnical issue, Tring station was missed out. I suspect that technical issue may have been the driver cocking up on this occasion. Anyhow, the conductor then held the train and tried to sort out the fiasco of missing a stop and what to do with the passengers. Cheddington is very rural, no taxi rank etc so it was total chaos. My wife ended up getting a taxi of her own accord after waiting about 30 mins, but I was wondering if:
a) A delay repay should be submitted and if so, how, based on the unusual turn of events?
b) Someone would be able to find the exact train timings for me please for the 5th? I think she was likely on 2K37 @ 2244hrs
c) As she ended up sharing a taxi and chipping in for the fare, how likely it is she's get her money back.

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

This would be your starting point.
You should be able to identify the train by an extended stop at Cheddington (in the actual time column).
I would be inclined simply to write and claim based on 1) actual delay incurred arriving at Tring Station (assuming she returned there) or at destination 2) her share of the taxi fare, explaining how that is calculated.
In principle I would expect the TOC to accept the claim.
Others may have an opinion based on experience with LM.

The difficulty here specifically may be in getting LNR to cough up for LM's misdeeds. Were it not for that I would say that you would certainly get Delay Repay though you may not get the taxi as you could have waited for the next train back assuming there was one. But with that I doubt you will get anything.

Edit: is that date correct? No train is showing with extended dwell time at Cheddington on 5th.

Technical reasons could have been lighting failure?

The train in question is 2K43 2344hrs from Euston - my apologies and thank you Kingsbury Jn. My wife said basically they shot through Tring and then the driver jammed the brakes on. They stopped for a few minutes (presumably for driver to report the failed stop) and then went forward to Cheddington, where all the Tring passengers had to get off and start to make their own way back. I'll pen a quick letter to LNR, explaining the situation and see what happens. Incidentally, when did the franchise switch over?

Looking at the timetable, the next train back from Cheddington was 0124hrs service, taking 2hrs 29mins (presumably back into London!). Leighton Buzzard would have been the same scenario I believe.

She is entitled to Delay Repay on the actual delay to her journey, ie. actual arrival time at destination station regardless of mode of transport last used (in her case, taxi). If she did not use the next train then she shouldn't be claiming for a delay based on the arrival time of that service.

I would expect her share of the taxi fare to also be refunded, provided that she obtained a receipt. The principle being that the passenger should not be out of pocket especially if it were caused by an issue within the control of the industry.

Did she seek advice from the guard as to what to do next on the day? It would likely be easier if that was what she was advised by the guard, for whatever reason, as an entry will likely be available in the control log. If not, still not a big issue, as I can't really imagine LM (or whatever they are called now) making a big fuss over such a small matter.
