Train delayed by Dandelions

I love how they can make a big thing out of a problem which blocked up air filters and won't, therefore allow the engines to breath. Let's report everytime a car has problems due to an air filter then!

Must be a slow news day then, common problem, considering that these trains have a reputation for overheating not surprising really. I wonder what GC can do about the problem? I have needed to use compressed air to blow out filters during the day before, but that is not so easy considering you need to find a source of compressed are and you can't really do it in a station!

you missed out that they'd blame it on immigration and that it would also give you cancer whilst reducing house prices and that it was an insult to the memory of Diana.

Network rail are not going around spraying roundup on all line sides to prevent Dandelions from growing in the first place. Prevention is better than the cure.

Nothing suggests that these Dandelions were growing on the lineside, and therefore Network Rails responsibility, quite the opposite in fact.

The dandelion “parachutes” have come out across the country in
the recent warm weather but yesterday large drifts were airborne
in South Yorkshire and gusting across the main line.

Are you suggesting Network Rail should be responsible for ensuring no seeds become airborne throughout the entirety of South Yorkshire? Or do you want a seasonal 'dandelion proof fence' lol.

Nothing suggests that these Dandelions were growing on the lineside, and therefore Network Rails responsibility. The whole point behind the design of the seeds is they can be carried great distances by the wind.

I guess Grand Central should be taking legal action against whoever let the dandelions grow in the first place then or network rail should be building all lines in tunnels to stop it happening. I blame the new Conservative government, Lord Adonis would never have let this happen.

There is another comment about foriegn junk from some in Coventry as well. Why don't they just blame it Tony Blair and Gordon Brown,

They moan about the Foreign junk yet they ignore that Desiros and Javelins seem to be doing fine so far! (I don't count the Pendolinos because they were built in the uk!)

Pendolinos were assembled in the UK, but the parts and technology was manufactured elsewhere. It reminds me of that sh*te Indian car Rover tried to sell by sticking their badges and a Union Jack on the boot. Oh, and doubling the price. How can someone from Coventry complain about foreign rubbish, aren't they still lamenting the loss of Peugeot manufacturing? We are an import economy, a load of consumers. We buy everything, but we don't want to earn a pittance making it.

And it was very windy the last two days. We've ended up with what looks like a jumper on our roof, so will have to wait for more wind to blow it down!

By all means cover the story as a quirky 'and finally' piece, but I do feel that this story is some attempt to attack the railway, which is dumb. It was a one off incident.

Well done Daily Mail! The first three words are inaccurate: 'A new train...' Well of course, it isn't a new *train* is it, it's a new service.
And I'm glad they think a blocked filter is news, I'm sure every time a Mondeo or a Vectra is stuck on the hard shoulder because a fuel or air filter gets gunged up, that'll be in the paper too.
