I applied for a conductor role in Portsmouth and I have my first assessment centre tomorrow morning. They mentioned that I will take 5 tests. I couldn't fine two of them to practice. Can you please help with the Railway Verbal Communication Exercise (RVCE) and Rules Acquisition Aptitude Test (RAAT). Thank you for any tips and advice. Will I get the results in the same day? Are here any others ready for the assessment centre? Thank you in advance.

Hi, they should of sent you practice test so double check the full length of your email. RVCE you must listen to a piece of information about an accident that has taken place. You need to make notes and relay a message back. Only pay attention to safety critical information (train car carriage total, number, passengers on-board, where the accident took place, post accident actions, etc). RAAT is interpreting and following rules.

Results are given the same day. Best of luck tomorrow Roxy.

Hi, the tests are just a simulation of what the real version will be. They are not the full version so it's just the case of practicing all. Practice speed and accuracy, reading all the instructions carefully and interpretation of them. I made a version of RVCE on my phone and went back to it every couple days and practiced my note taking and listening to important information relating to the train. What you need would be a paper version of this test example, read out aloud by someone or you make an audio version of it, practice your note taking and then mark the test according to what information you were required to note. Perhaps someone on an Tfl train operators Forum would be able to help further.

You didn’t apply for a conductor role at Portsmouth, you applied for a Commercial Guard role at Fratton ;)

Hope it went well!

I know how you feel. I applied for two different companies for the same role and one of them offered me more samples. However, this was after my first assessment center. I was successful without buying their tests, I used all the resources from youtube (great railway videos, helped me understand what to expect from this job and how to pass an assessment center). Practice, practice and practice! Search for: group bourdon and psychometric tests on google, you will be surprised how many free tests are out there. Good luck!

Good news Stigy, I passed the interview. They offered me a pre-contract, I just need to pass the medical test tomorrow. We might be colleagues . Thank you for all your support. All the best, Roxy.
