My first long distance rail journey since March 2020 .... provides today's challenge question to all of DR specialists out there. I had an off-peak return ticket and seat reservation from Paddington on GW for a Sunday. (I know, never travel on GW a Sunday "unless your journey is really necessary"...)
I checked with the National Rail website before leaving and discovered that the train was cancelled, with the next connection an hour later. So I delayed my journey by an hour ... and travel in very crowded conditions as a reward.
However, when looking to make a DR claim, I note that the industry's train running information data report that the train I originally had the reservation on in fact apparently did operate!
So where do I stand vis-a-vis DR? I was an hour late but is the 'rule' that you have to go to the departure station first to see whether the 'cancelled' train is actually running...? Or is the National Rail website not a reliable source of information....?
