Was sat on the 19.10 from Preston to Ormskirk at Platform 2 when a member of staff( do not know what his precise role was ) informs us that the train is cancelled and the next train will be the 20.10. Well I have an advance for the 19.10 on my phone, now I know I am perfectly allowed to use my advance on the following train within the rules but am I acrually going to get any trouble ? Had a long day set to be even longer and don't feel like arguing

Why would you get in trouble when your train was cancelled?
If the Conductor isn't aware the 19:10 was cancelled, they can easily check.

You should not have any issues using your ticket on the 20:10. The train crew on the 20:10 will likely know about the previous cancellation and can easily check if they really wanted to.

@chris53. If the 20:10 Northern train from Preston arrives into Ormskirk at or after 20:41, you've effectively got yourself a "free" journey, as the Delay Repay due on an Advance Single is 100% for a 60+ minute delay. Alternatively you may prefer to request a Northern Complimentary Travel pass as your compensation.
