Interesting news on this new train recently announced by Govt. of India in the recent budget 2019.

Train 18 (later renamed Vande Bharat Express) is an Indian semi-high speed intercity electric multiple unit. It was designed and built by Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai under the Indian government's Make in India initiative over a span of 18 months. The unit cost of the first rake was given as ₹100 crore (US$14 million), though the unit cost is expected to go down with subsequent production. At the original price, it is estimated to be 40% less costly than a similar train imported from Europe. The train is planned to begin service in January 2019 (planned), by which date a second unit will have been produced and readied for service. Acknowledging its made-in-India status, it was renamed as 'Vande Bharat Express' on 27 January 2019.

Railway Budget 2019 expectations: Indian Railways, which has seen many major upgradations this year saw the manufacturing of the much awaited engine-less self-propelled Train 18, which is all set to replace the Shatabdi Express trains soon. Today, Union Finance and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal who will present the Railway Budget 2019 as part of the main Union Budget 2019 speech in the parliament is most likely to make announcements about Train 18. It is being expected that this year’s Railway Budget 2019 will highlight the ‘Make in India’ Train 18, now called the Vande Bharat Express and showcase it as the future of railway travel in India. Train 18 is India’s first semi-high speed train equipped with world-class passenger amenities. The train has been manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai at a cost of Rs 97 crore.

Unfortunately, so would be the quality. They could have imported from Europe if not for them jingoistic mindset at play. Panels coming off, squeaky seats, unhinged doors, the list could go on. I'm not holding my breath for this one.

I think you are living the dream in a hallucinated world got stuck in 1900’s mate.

May be its a cheaper product but definitely worth the money due to the manpower.

I have heard Europe is filled with illegal immigrants vandalising trains, pulling panels off, breaking the doors and the list goes on!
