These platforms seem so dangerous in third rail land. They just look wrong!
I think all the ones on third-rail lines are only allowed to open on the non-leccy side.

The reason is because the bay was quite small before and in order to get longer trains in there the platform had to be lengthened, but to do it on the existing side was virtually impossible due to the underpass entrance. So a new platform was built on the other side and the existing face was fenced off. It's still there to be seen though.
Similar story at Sheffield platform 7, where they switched to using the face adjacent to 8 when the second hourly London service was introduced because that face is long enough for a 5 car meridian, whereas the face adjacent to platform 6 can only take 4 cars. Took them a while to move the signs though, for the first few months the platform number and the electronic sign were on the "wrong" side of the train.
