Track surveying

Not sure if this is the correct thread, but moderators can move it to the appropriate section.

Can't say what 37 or pair of 37's have been around Edinburgh this week, but I suspect they have track survey equipment in tow. I can't exactly say if it was a track survey train going past my flat at around 02:10 this morning, but it was great to hear the distinct sound of a class 37! Anyway, what are they doing the surveying for, are there any track maintenance programmes forthcoming for the Edinburgh south suburban loop?

DRS’ 37218 and 37259 with Network Rail’s PLPR1 infrastructure monitoring train were in that area last night. It’s a regular, four-weekly working; just track recording for maintenance purposes.

Thanks for the reply! I thought that as it seemed to have been around recently, there were trackworks planned!
