They are lateral resistance plates - most commonly used on areas of tight radii. I believe the standard is now that they are installed on sections of CWR where the radius is tighter than 400m. There are also versions (mainly for older sleeper types) that go on the sleeper ends rather than down the 4ft
track anchors of the style in the picture have now been fitted at Selby Station at the North end ( east end ) of the Hull side platform if any wants to see them in the north area.
