im 24 and since leaving college ive been a landscape gardener but after 5 years im no better off and fed up so trying to get into the rail industry as its always been an intrest.

im half way through a course with Amber Train on Track Maintenance and underpinning and will gain an NVQ in that by the new year.

by the end of this month were applying to NR and other contractors for full apprenticeship and if successful Amber Train fund PTS and TIC courses (via goverment apprenticeship funding)

now what Ambertain Failed to mention nor seem to keen on filling us in with any extra info is that 4 of us including me will be 25 by time of apprenticeship so goverment funding for us is highly unlikly thus no PTS or TIC

so really just wondering whats the chances of the likes of NR balfour beaty skyblue etc on taking someone on thats only got the basics no pts or tic etc. so far ive gathered its all on reputation once youve got your foot in the door willing to show up and graft you can get anywhere in the industry, and i would say out of 15 of us theres only a handful that will actually hack it on track grafting

Plenty jobs out there, but you need (obviously) to be certificated & for the the first six months of PTS you wear blue helmet, so essential you stay with same team/gang for the first year.
Progression & more work will come with grafters.

Try Railway People, Morson, Vital or Atom Services for agency work

Good luck:D
