TPWS at Permanent Speed Restrictions

According to Railway Group Standards (GE/RT 8075 Issue 2)

TPWS shall be provided on the approach to speed restrictions where the permitted speed on the approach is 60 mph or more and the speed restriction reduces the speed by at least one-third except for: a) Temporary speed restrictions in place for three months or less. And b) Temporary speed restrictions in place for between three months and twelve months, subject to risk assessment,

There are a considerable number of other exceptions.

My question is - does anybody know roughly how many TPWS OSS loops are fitted at PSRs? Any examples of where they are fitted would be helpful.

Just thinking of my line of route. For example, the down electric has PSR/TPWS OSS at:

- Bow Junction / Carpenters Rd South Jct
- Manor Park / Ilford flyover
- Gidea Park London end
- Shenfield London end

So my guess is that they're quite common.

Indeed, they are not rare. Speed changes which meet the quoted requirement in the OP will almost all have TPWS OSS.

We've had TSRs in place for years without TPWS and even those planned for longer haven't had it fitted. I've certainly never heard of TPWS fitted to TSRs and never heard it mentioned.

My concern for TPWS at a TSR would be the ability of those setting it up to do it correctly. They struggle putting the normal equipment out in the proper places sometimes.

It's possible that, as with some PSRs, they didn't meet the criteria for TPWS fitment.

I certainly have heard of TPWS being fitted to TSRs. I occasionally see TPWS fitment mentioned within Section A of the Weekly Operating Notice. It's uncommon but it does happen.

Thanks very much for the info on the SW and GE areas. Can anybody help with some info from WCML, ECML, GWML or Scotland? It doesn't have to be comprehensive - just enough to give some idea of TPWS coverage of PSRs.

According to the document linked here, there are around 1150 PSRs fitted with TPWS (and about 50 TSRs).

Though if following the process, a TSR that has been on for 6 months should be made into a PSR unless there is a dated plan to fix it.
