TPEX 185s Edinburgh - York

Yesterday 16/7 and today a 185 is working empty as 3S44 York - Edinburgh and 3T45 Edinburgh - York.

Does anyone have any idea what its doing this for?

Im presuming Driver training.

I would guess so, I thought TPE extensions were happening from Newcastle to Edinburgh in the near future?

The Newcastle to Edinburgh extension is happening in 2019 as far as I recall. They have been operating Manchester to Edinburgh services via the ECML when the West Coast route is closed due to engineering works though.

They are going to be running that way shortly (next bank holiday weekend) during WCML engineering works. I thought there might be another thread mentioning it, but it may have been in another forum.

Yeah ive seen them working Edinburgh - Manchester via the ECML during recent WCML closures, I have just never seen them working these ecs moves.

Most moves appear to have been double 185s

The 802 for the service dont arrive till 2019 but I thought they were going to start it in 2018, initially plan was for the pretendolino to operate it till they arrived but now I think they will use Mk5.

It's a good run doing them when they're extended during engineering works.

Lightly loaded from experience as they tend to slot in behind a Virgin or XC service and fares tend to be lower.
