A pat on the back for all those who have gotten through to stage 2. Applying for Manchester Piccadilly myself. So far found it ok but the phone interview was pretty intense - then again, haven't been down this road before so not knowing what to expect, really. Whatever happens, happens. Just hope I can push on to the next bit. Good luck all.:)

Hello, I'm also a new poster. Had my telephone interview yesterday and found out I passed today. Looking forward to the next stage now. Does anyone know how many posts they are recruiting for? I meant to ask this at the end of my telephone interview.

Also, I know train driving is a male dominated career, are there any other females who've applied?

On the web site, it stated that they were looking for 1 trainee driver at each of there depots. Good luck.

Have my phone interview on Wednesday, I would be extremely grateful if anyone can give me any idea as what sort of questions they ask.

Cheers

Focus on aspects of customer service and why you want to work for FTPE. Also, why do you want to be a train driver? Best to give examples of your customer service experience.

Does anyone know when stage 2 will be? Heard nothing yet.

Usually the questions via telephone are 'think of a time when......' so have examples to give which back up what you say. (Chances are you'll get questions relating to customer service and safety)

Remember to explain what the situation was, what problems you faced and how you overcame them. (The big word there being YOU). They want to know what type of person you are so as cheesy as it sounds talk yourself up as much as you can

Good Luck

Just got a message that I passed tests :)" but there were extremely popular vacancies and we had a huge respond;) because of this we are unable to progress all the applications that we received" I have to wait when they recruit again. Good luck to everyone!

I've got the same email

It's not a no, and as others have said First seem very good at letting you know what is happening, so a small glimmer of hope to hang onto..

No, still waiting for the assessment dates. As mentioned near the top of the page, they were only advertising for 1 Trainee at Blackpool and 1 at Lime Street. I have been thinking about this and it doesn't make much sense. Training courses are like hens teeth at the moment and unless they already have 8-10 internal candidates pencilled in, I would think there would be more than 1 at each site. This is assuming that any internal candidates have bypassed this process, which I thought they had to take with everyone else? Only TPE truly know lol.

The training is at Huddersfield, TPE conference facility called the Hub, at Huddersfield train station.

No. I believe Stage 1 is application, online tests and phone interview. Stage 2 is assessments. Stage 3 is structured and manager interviews and stage 4 is medical. So group bourdon to come, I think

Its great to read peoples successes thus far!

I have my telephone interview tomorrow and was wondering if I need to have answers ready around my knowledge of the company etc or is it more competency based, such as tell us a time you did this, displayed this etc?

Thanks in advance

Julie

Hi Julie,

Which location have you applied for? The reason I ask is they are turning people away who have passed the assessments in some cases due to being oversubscribed so it seems strange they are still interviewing.

I have been wondering this myself. It seems strange that for so few vacancies they have kept the vacancy open so long and seem to be interviewing still. It does make you think what they are doing and whether there are either more vacancies than people think, or whether they are planning ahead and plan to talent pool people.

Its Liverpool/Blackpool - I just booked my phone interview from the time slots that were available. Friday 21st March at 5pm was the last phone slot i saw so thats when it must end, I suspect once those slots had all been booked up thats when people were being turned away!

Had my email to invite me to take stage one of the assessments. I had already done the assessments with Northern a few weeks ago though, and passed. I have informed them, of course, as they asked, but have now said:

'Thanks for letting us know your recent assessment scores. We have checked this and unfortunately your scores can't be carried over to First Trans Pennine Express as they are using enhanced scores only. The outcome of this is that we are unable to progress your current application with First Trans Pennine Express and you will need to wait for a period of six months before applying again. You can however continue your application with Northern.'

Fuming mad isn't the word. So much for these tests being valid for up to 5 years. And so much for them all being the same with a standard pass or fail. Beware people. All is not as it seems.
