A large group of Year 9 & 10 students, for those interested. I'm in Year 9, which has actually been taken quite surpringly because of the way I write (lol),

Year 9? Blimey. I'd have thought Year 12 or 13 by the way you write! (though perhaps this particular sentence wasn't the best example! )

Some Year 9s can be very immature and it would be unwise to let them loose spread across a 3-coach train in my opinion, but maybe the teacher knew the group were all sensible enough, but I'd not be surprised if the teacher got a word of 'advise' if it was found out they'd let Year 9s travel in a different coach to them on such a journey.

Set 1 English with a teacher of 20+ years experience does a lot to the way one writes!

Perhaps I should have mentioned our actual age in my opening post, but like I say, 13/14 & 14/15 year olds on a train spread out is a bit worrying when being shared by only 2 adults.

I think anyone at my high school would have been more worried about the risk of being sat near a teacher to be honest

wow. When I was young I had to travel to/from School on the train on me own - and school was around 80 miles....

In that instance your parents, or other legal guardians, took the decision that this was a risk worth taking. Once at school the responsibility for your welfare passes to the teaching and other staff.

Indeed but it was no big thing like the OP was kind of making out. Even on School trips we were never all in the same carriage..

We had a school railway society. We had an annual trip to London - c.20 youngsters, usually 2 staff. We toured Stratford depot + one other (Hither Green, Finsbury Park, Stewarts Lane in different years). We would then be left to our own devices (minimum group of 3, to include at least one 'senior' i.e. 14/15+

The risk of being sat near a door, and not near a teacher with others, and suddenly being snatched by an adult, puts stuff into perspective for me.

er, and the chances of "suddenly being snatched by an adult" from a train are ..... vanishingly small?

If it's in an educational establishment, I'd hope it'd be a word of "advice".
