That was a benefit but I think it was mainly due to Hitachi not having sufficient spare capacity at Newton Aycliffe to build an extra 12 sets. With hindsight ordering them was a big mistake and I would bet that Chiltern will have difficulties operating them.
I seem to remember the reason for them was that they were available quickly because they were a follow-on from the Caledonian Sleeper order, hence the unusual 22m vehicle length (which purely existed because of the need to have slightly shorter vehicles on the Cally to fit them in at Euston) and interior panels based on the Cally lounge cars. However there were so many problems with them that they did not in fact enter service quickly, entirely negating the point.
