I saw this set working back from Bletchley on Thursday and as it was held at Stafford for 15 minutes I asked the driver if it was now on full crew training or still accumulating mileage and his response was something along the lines of 'it's still got a few hundred miles of fault free running to do' which I took to mean it was nearing the end, so your maths are probably right in that after the Friday run it would have been touching 2000 miles
I hope my maths is right, I do it for a job;)

Thanks for that, I’d hoped TP04 was nearing the handover stage, hopefully with the software problems sorted:)

Well one thing I did notice was that the destination boards had nothing loaded into them, something I've seen done on other workings. Could just be that they never bothered to set them up for this run of course

Do coaches 11801-11814 exist ?.

I've done a fair bit of searching of this thread but I cannot determine if they do exist. I have even watched and paused videos. My only guess is that they were Mk5a driving trailers and instead became 12801-12814 at some point in the past but I cannot be sure.

That would mean the Mk5a's are :-
Class 68 locomotive,
11501-11513 1st class (1 per set),
12701-12739 2nd class (3 per set),
12801-12814 2nd class DVT (1 per set with 1 spare).
Or am I wildly wrong ?.

This is correct although the 128xx vehicles are more DT (Driving Trailer) than DVT.

Regarding the Class 68 locos, is the number range for TPE between 68018 to 68034 inclusive?

On a side note, I have already had 018 and 033 for haulage on the Fife loco hauled sets last summer.

68019 to 68032 inclusive in TPE livery and with modified cab controls to work with the Nova 3 sets, locos owned by Beacon Rail, subleased to TPE by DRS.

68033 and 68034 in DRS colours, again with modified cab controls, to serve as reserve locos for the TPE services, locos owned by DRS.

Hope that helps:)

Anyone not interested in locos, look away now;)

68032 ‘Destroyer’ Scarborough (driver training)
68024 ‘Centaur’ York (driver training)
68027 ‘Splendid’ and 68028 ‘Lord President’ York P SD

68019 ‘Brutus’ and 68022 ‘Resolution’ York Siemens Depot.

An intensive day of driver training planned today with both 68024 and 68032 scheduled to be in operation:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/sea.../26/0000-2359?stp=S&show=all&order=wtt&toc=TP

In addition, there are paths in Monday to Friday for

0P68 04:55 Longsight to York
0M68 09:15 York to Longsight

Given 68027/28 are on York P SD, I’d guess they will be candidates for a trip back to Manchester.

Of the locos in TPE livery, just 68025 Superb remains as having not visited York, I wonder if this will be a ‘red pen’ week;)

Once again thank you for all your updates, they are very much appreciated. Please don't take any notice of a few trolls who contribute nothing, please keep up the good work!

Looks like it's effectively running in the path of the heaton-manchester 802 test run which isn't running today (listed as 5Q54 to MIA via the chord or 5Q56 to Picc via Guide Bridge

Edit:- correction. Locos are running via Wakefield. 802 test runs pass through Leeds

I see that the Longsight-Carlisle fault free running trips haven't operated yet this week. Given that after the first two sets the mileage required reduced (1,500 miles has been quoted previously), and that set 04 had done nearly 2,000 miles, I'm guessing that it has completed the mileage needed and there will now be a hiatus whilst final preparations are made for handover to TPE. If that was around the middle of June, it would mean a pattern was emerging of one set per month being accepted by TPE. Furthermore if another was to follow by mid-July, in this pattern, that would mean TPE would then have 4 sets, which I would suggest would be the minimum needed to start the two passenger diagrams from 29 July, as has been quoted. Two sets on crew training, one each side of the Pennines, and two sets in service. That would of course be subject to enough crews being trained up in time, I understand training was due to recommence this week with 2 daily return paths in the system from Crewe to Wavertree, Weds to Fri, however this morning's first trip has been cancelled due to "a problem with the on-board safety systems".
(Mostly pure speculation on my part, apologies to those in the know if its all a load of rubbish)

@Spartacus the screenshot above states horbury junction so I'm guessing you are on about the 802 moves, given however that Wakefield is a diversionary route anyway and how congested Leeds is I'm surprised the 802 runs are routed that way. But then this is the railway....

@sjpowermac Genius is an internal website. It will tell me what units etc and which traincrews are diagrammed but will only tell me TPE allox. It won't tell me what is diagrammed for LNER or XC for example unless I log in using the relevant TOC credentials which I don't have (and no, you can't have mine! XD) It will however show all workings, late running, booked platform etc in real time and delay attribution information.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Some quick question regarding all three types of the new TPE stock and their home depots:

Are the Class 68s main home Carlisle Kingmoor, with the Mk V stock based at York?

Are the 397s main home Longsight or Ardwick?

Are the 802s main home Doncaster or Edinburgh Millerhill?

I have been told that these runs are replacing the Crewe-Wavertree runs for Manchester drivers to refresh class 68's. It is better this way as most drivers don't sign the Wavertree route and needed a route conductor, whereas this route is signed by all.

68s are, in the main, allocated to Crewe Gresty Bridge. The 802/2s' main depot will be Doncaster Carr (Hitachi), although I suspect Edinburgh Craigentinny (now Hitachi) & possibly Liverpool Edge Hill (despite being an Alstom site) will help out too; Millerhill is only a stabling and light servicing point. Possibly Heaton (Hitachi IIRC) as well.
The 397s and Mk5a stock will be allocated to Longsight (Alstom) last I heard, with Edge Hill also lending a maintenance hand. Think Polmadie (Alstom again) will also maintain the 397s that make it to Glasgow/Edinburgh, while York Leeman Rd (Siemens) will do the same for the Mk5a sets.

In addition there’s a new depot at Scarborough that will handle two Mk5a rakes each night.

Thanks for that, appreciated. It will be nice if/when 0P68/0M68 start getting replaced by 5P68/5M68;)

From your other post it starts to look a bit more promising that things are moving forward, hopefully not too many more twists to the saga;)

Evening guys, I'm just updating some of my logs with regards to the few MK5 sets I've seen out on test. Based on what I've read further up the thread I think I'm right but just wanted to check the consists of a few sets. Do I have the right formations for the following sets:

TP01 - 12801, 12701, 12702, 12703, 11501
TP06 - 12806, 12716, 12717, 12718, 11506
TP09 - 12809, 12725, 12726, 12727, 11509

The order isn't too important but think I've got it right in that the First Class carriage is at the loco end. If someone could confirm this, that would be great as Abrail is showing different information (understandably considering the sets are work in progress).

Thanks

Yes - the galley area for first class passenger catering is at the end next to the loco, which is why that door has a no entry label on it.

Oh yeah I remember the discussions about the galley being between the loco and the 1st class passengers when talking about noise from the 68. Thanks for the reminder

I'm unable to post a link, but I've just seen some photo's from Crewe station of an inter-yard move, with 70007 running round a pair of back to back Mk5A rakes. The 70 coupled directly to the driving trailers. I assume the move took place this morning.

70007 taking set 2+5 from South Yard to Basford hall.
