The amount of plastic wrapping on that is just ridiculous. We're going through an environmental crisis and plastic pollution plays a big part in that - so why on earth are trains of all things needlessly being wrapped in plastic, just for the plastic to be disposed of once the train reaches Manchester?

That was a new TPE Class 397!

Graffiti must cost the railway hundreds of thousands of pounds a year.
Rife in mainland Europe for a long time but getting even worse here in the UK now.

We arent going through and environmental crisis, that is just scaremongering.

Because graffiti is generally done on the sly and on the fly, so the "artist" ( ) isn't going to spend ages unwrapping the train first. It wouldn't prevent the graffiti but would mean it could be peeled off easily.

I don't unduly mind artistic graffiti (Banksy and similar) on nondescript things like big concrete slabs or bridge supports, they don't look nice to start with. But going over the top of something that is designed to look nice (a liveried train) or affecting its function (going over the windows or highlighted doors for accessibility reasons) is really not on. Tagging is not on anywhere, it's just ugly.

68022 Resolution through Manchester Oxford Road at 12:07 today. It went through P3 coming from Crewe to Longsight. Unfortunately for me I was on a 319 on P4 and barely got a view as it was allowed through, holding up an already late service to the Airport.View attachment 54516

What are those red squares just below the windscreen? Lights? Reflectors? Something else?

They are the covers for the multi worker cables.

If you consider that a train typically lasts between 30 and 50 years, I think it's all rather de-minimis, really.
