Following a period of storage the vehicle was refurbished for use by Transpennine Express prior to the introduction of their new trains.
On the ERS website, they state that the Pretendolino Mark 3s used by TPE for a very limited time were refurbished. Is this true, and to what extent was the refurbishment?

It wasn't refurbished. The Mark 3 set in question made just one passenger trip for TPE, in ex-Virgin condition.

They had been stored for months before their single use with TPE, so perhaps that site is referring to the inevitable "fixing up" they'd have needed after being in store. Not a refurbishment by any stretch to most people, but there isn't really a textbook definition of what would qualify as one, so...

Perhaps they got confused with it being refurbished by VT as a one off, which kept the original IC70 seats but painted it up and changed carpets, moquette etc in line with Pendolinos and Voyagers (i.e. blue and red), whereas for most of their time with VT the interior was green and blue, which I believe was specced by BR before privatisation. Only one set was ever done, I believe to substitute for the written off Pendolino from Greyrigg.

They were deep cleaned and overhauled following a lengthy period in store but not refurbished.

They were sent all the way down to Laira for refurbishing, but just sat there for ages before coming back North again.

And then some whingeing lobby group complained about lack of accessibility for some disabled people. Forgetting that many Class 185s were so full that accessibility was equally difficult...

There wouldn't have been a problem if TPE had said any wheelchair user wishing to travel at that time could have a taxi if they preferred. What they did - expecting them to wait an hour - was stingy and so they caused their own problem.

They went to Laira for a C4 overhaul. There was no refurbishment work done.

Yes but didn't the vehicles receive bogie, suspension and coupler overhauls at Laira ?
IIRC the refurbishment was the underpinnings, which guaranteed them a life with TPEW for crew training etc.

The issue that eventually precluded their use on TPE passenger services was the re-introduction of droplight stock through Standedge Tunnel and the concerns raised by ORR over this to which there was no evonomical solution.
