TPE Fares

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if I did two or three trips on TPE, in FC, to anywhere they run, if there was some kind of money saving ticket i could get?

I'm only talking about travelling a few times within a week, and doing TPE AP Return fares wouldn't be very good.

I'm only really thinking about bashing 185's, after my very enjoyable trip to Cleethorpes in August.

I'd be based in Manchester, if I did go north, so that would be my starting point/finishing point at the end of the day.

You might be interested in a North West rover then. £52 for a 4 in 8, and covers the following....

You can get all the North West TPE services, and North TPE as far as Leeds.

I normally purchase the Value Advance First, between Glasgow and Preston, and that is £42 return
Ironically, the fare is the same between Glasgow and Carlisle
I would expect TPE FC fares to be on a par with that

I wasn't aware the North West Rover was available as FC
The Freedom of Scotland one isn't either

Seeing Preston is my nearest VT station, i regularly use it, when using Virgin Value Firsts

The NW Rover Is NOT available in FC For £52, just SC, which is why it's not useful on this occasion.

Weekend first on TPE is £6 and you could get, say, Liverpool to Newcastle for that. Or Newcastle to Hull via Leeds, etc. So that can be worth it.

You really are missing out by getting only AP tickets and not rovers.

That's why I purchase Value Advance First tickets between Glasgow and Preston
A Standard Saver Return is £51.50
Add the Weekend First and that takes it to £81.50
A Value Advance First (return) is £42.00
Why pay for Standard, when First Class is cheaper>!

I'm talking about TPE. Do you have evidence that TPE are charging more than £6 for weekend first? If so, please state it. Here's my source: http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/tickets/fares.asp. TPE aren't fussy over Weekend first and it's well worth it on a 185 where you can sometimes get a table to yourself while standard is full and standing (!!!)

I firmly believe that, to do complicated routes and round trips like voyagerdude is doing, the best way (by far!) to do it is on rovers. If it involves a long journey on TPE on a weekend then Weekend First is good value at only £6!

On certain routes a First Class AP fare works out cheaper as a result

First Class Value Advance for the next timetable are still not available

Thanks for the advice David, the Rover looks like brilliant value for money!

Edit: Yorkie, do TPE accept SOR's free in FC, just like VT? Do TPE allow AP holders to upgrade on the train?

It is not possible to upgrade a Value Advance fare to First Class, on Weekend First
The ticket needs to be one of the ones I listed earlier; saver or open
