I'm not particularly left wing and I don't believe unions always get it right but your posts on here have been way off the mark in terms of fairness, accuracy or showing any kind of understanding of how unions like Aslef work. So far your only contributions to this thread have been to attempt to have a dig at Aslef wherever possible.

I hereby offer you the olive branch of peace and wish to bring to an end the recent acrimony that has occurred in our posting responses.

I accept and offer the same. Obviously trade union posts quickly become the subject of strong views. I just get very fed up reading the same attacks on here, and I don't mean that personally to you in this thread.

Is it me or does this 12 page thread have no actual information about what TPE does now, and what is being proposed.

I've tried to steer it that way a few times. I thought we had a TPE driver who posted here.

Anyway, as I said earlier, a few years ago TPE had 4.2 turns per week and the reason for that was that they believed some depots could not do 4 efficiently. I presume going to 4 has raised its head again, but as I also noted earlier, it would be a difficult time for TPE to agree significant changes to T&Cs due to coming to the end of the current franchise.

Because I posted in this thread, I've been 'subscribed' automatically by the forum so my attention was first diverted to this topic.

90% of the last 3 pages is nothing to do with TPE drivers. Instead we've had RMT mentioned about a irrelevant Northern Rail guards dispute, "left wing", anti-union posts by members who backtrack by claiming it was all a joke and humour when they have a well response response thrown back at them, Spanish practises mentioned and possibly the best worded apology I've seen written by Paul at 0200.

Back to TPE............................

Like HH has said some 4.2 days, I suspect the smaller depots like Scarborough and Cleethorpes where a 4 day a week at depots where work is limited wouldn't benefit the company as they would have to employ potentially more drivers to cover no increase in productive work and just an extra dead hour sat in a messroom to lengthen the jobs, see the Thameslink example. Sundays inside maybe causing issues?

Some places have a 4 day week and is great as it works for both TOC and staff, some prefer the 5 day week so clearly it's not a 'one size fits all' approach.

What is the feeling from TPE drivers about the issue? Not fussed, really wanted it or a mixed view?

But not impossible. ASLEF got Southern drivers a 2-year deal with a significant pay rise with mere months left to run on the franchise. DfT approved it. Though, GoVia was retaining the franchise and the negotiators were the same for SN and GTR, so they were able to get agreement from all parties. There was also a ballot for action passed by the membership.

Is the winner of the next TPE franchise known?

Are the membership willing to ballot over this issue?

Please get your facts right. Nobody needed to 'backtrack' by claiming it was all a joke. My original message finished with a 'rolling eyes' emoticon which I had assumed would be interpreted as being a lighthearted 'dig' rather than anything of great concern. It's not my problem if others are so wound up in their Union-god world that they've lost track of how most normal people communicate.

This really is a waste of everyone's time. Let's all just agree that Unions are wonderful, their members are always right and nobody should ever raise the slightest concern over their actions. At least that should dramatically reduce the length of any debate to about 3 messages rather than the pages of open discussion that Union members routinely never like.

Glad you've managed to see the light. We are always right. I'd put a little smiley but I don't know if you'd find it amusing after that Guinness world records attempt at lemon consumption.

Putting your 'joke' up once is funny, twice is annoying, three times is taking the p-ss!

You have posted your 'joke' about 10 times, it ceased being 'funny' a long time ago!

Robertj21a having yet another dig at unions and their members and thinking putting a smiley on the end makes it a joke.

Don't worry mate, despite a resurgent passion in Uk politics for the far left, we've not yet voted for annexation by North Korea , so at the moment anyway your not forced or obliged to read anything you don't want to :D

I totally despair !.

My only posts have been to correct the misunderstandings of others. Am I not allowed to ensure the facts are correct when my original posting was misconstrued ?

Anyway, subject closed - there's really no need for you to keep repeating everything.

December for that I believe given what I have read elsewhere on this board.

Correct, and it cannot be the same as the current franchisee as that's an FG/Keolis JV. Without knowing the terms of that JV you can't say for certain that even if FG won they'd be able to take it through, and given FG's recent bidding performance I wouldn't bet on them winning.

Noting what you say and also the title of this thread, can any stricture be noted against bids where the provision of a service can be so effected by not having either enough rolling stock or enough operational train staff to meet the required minimum service provision that will be stated in the documentation to tender?

Excellent, I see left politics have somehow found it's way into a private company relying on staff overtime, for a minute there I thought we were on a rail forum :lol::lol:

It's not just this thread Robert, it's a continuing theme of yours to simply start throwing about little posts of provocations towards drivers, who the vast majority of in ASLEF and scurry away like a little rat by claiming it was all a joke ;)

It's more a case of having to take a step back from spitting out some home truths and getting a ban from the board that stops true feelings being put on here.

As a union member ( and branch official) I am more than happy to discuss the rights and wrongs of Trades Unionism. There are many examples of both option! However; I would prefer if it were based on something more than regurgitated media bullfrog and showed an open minded willingness to consider the story from both sides.

As another poster mentioned earlier, this thread is going round and round in circles and has just become a union bashing/supporting discussion and veered right off the original topic.

You sound surprised at that?
Isn't it always the case that when rail staff (especially the militant overpaid drivers) exercise their right to actually taking their days off it always heads off in the same direction-

They are holding the company to ransom
Why won't they work for the good of the company
Etcetera etcetera

Whereas the question they should be asking is why is the company so dependant on the staff to work overtime all the time!
Okay there will always be occasions when overtime is needed to cover for a bout of sickness etc but the company has come to depend on drivers to work overtime continuously just to cover the normal shifts under normal circumstances and that is purely the fault of the company!

I've already said that, as far as I'm concerned, this matter is closed - but everyone else still just carries on the usual ranting about anyone else who dares to comment on, let alone criticise, Unions.

Some of us would actually quite like to contribute an alternative view to that usually pedalled on this forum. Obviously, I recognise that most members are rail staff, *possibly* with a vested interest in the status quo - so that makes any alternative view a massive uphill battle. However, the fact that some of us are still prepared to, seemingly waste (?), our time making observations is clearly of no benefit to anyone at all.

No point in Union supporters getting upset so I'll try very hard not to comment on anything even slightly contentious in future.

No more comments from me on this subject - a total waste of my time.

I've not read the entire thread but based on what has been mentioned to me, that does indeed appear to be the case, so I think it's time to lock the thread.

However, as always, if anyone has any significant developments to report, please contact us and we can consider unlocking the thread.
