They're going to Chiltern and being kept in storage there so when the Chiltern line is electrified in 10 years time they'll have trains ready to go

That's what most people seem to think but considering people's guesses have included more trains being ordered, adding additional carriages to existing ones, adding additional facilities such as plug sockets or improving existing facilities I think TPE are going to regret that tweet.

TPE are exicted to announce that following the decision to move the class 170s to Chiltern next year, a number of nearly new DMUs have been procured from overseas to replace them. So from May next year, the routes previously operated with the 170s will be replaced with refurbished, ex-Iranian Railways class 141s. The refurbishments will include new seat covers, doors that work almost all of the time and the windows will be cleaned....

I think it'll most likely be a change from their current grey colours. Whether that's to corporate livery or not remains to be seen.

On a more serious note, I suggested in an earlier thread the the freed 170's could be converted to 171's and extend Uckfield trains to 10-car. This was dismissed as it was said that there was not enough paths to free up the 170's, which seemed perfectly reasonable. Was this not true, or did TPE find the space to free up the units?

It's inaccurate to refer to them as 'freed-up' 170s though, because they haven't been released from TPE by new stock- just been poached (albeit legally) thanks to the franchising debacle. TPE (or Rail North, or the DfT) will have to find replacement stock or services will have to be cancelled- trains aren't normally withdrawn before their replacements are delivered or even ordered!

FGW were even allowed to keep the 158s with better seating and engines opposed to their Wessex Trains ones so got a good deal even if it wasn't the deal they originally wanted.

Didn't have 158s pinched by ScotRail in similar fashion. iIRC Northern had claimed to have signed off on 30 158s to see some go on loan North of the border and never return. I think Northern ended up wit 19 and some centre cars

Are all the TPE trains getting this livery or just the 350s?
It'd be silly to just have 10 trains in one livery and the rest in the old one, although it does differentiate electric and diesel.
