TPE 185 over the S&C?

Hi all,

Just a quick question regarding a movement which may have happened yesterday:

According to the one or two gen groups I'm registered to, TPE diverted a few 185's over the S&C line yesterday evening, as a result of the overhead line chaos around Penrith. Does anyone know which 185's were involved?

Am i right to think this is the first time this has happened? I wasn't aware that TPE knew the route over the S&C.

Around February 2008 I remember seeing a diesel train in the dark lit up near Clitheroe, which sounded nothing like the usual Northern Rail services, one evening when some services had been diverted due to a problem along the WCML, although it could have been some form of freight movement.

TPE may have had a Conductor driver with him for the road knowledge

Only one was diverted as far as I am aware. 185149 worked the 1733 Carlisle to Manchester airport via the S&C, quite surprising as the voyagers and the dragged mail trains were making it down the mainline albeit very late.

1S83 1800 MIA - EDB (which actually started from MAN at 1816) also went that way. A route conducter was hired from DRS.

Are these services still crewed by freightliner drivers or did tpx find/train drivers for these services.

I'm annoyed with myself in a way, as I had spotted the 19:00? Preston to Edinburgh on NRES as not stopping at Lancaster, Oxenholme or Penrith, but it never passed my mind that it could be being diverted, as I didn't think about route conductors etc. I thought it was just trying to make up time, as the NRES website still expected it to travel between Preston and Carlisle in just over the hour, and not the 2h20 at least over the S&C.

As much as I like them, it really does put VT to shame cancelling several northbound services at Preston, and directing passengers onto busses.
