TPE 170308 came into Man Piccadilly on only one engine on the 1628 Cleethorpes to Man Airport Service. Thus terminating at Man Piccadilly I think. Even though no annoucements made before I got off.

Lights were at minimum in coach C where I was.

How reliable are the Class 170s that TPE have already got?

tpe's 170's aren't that bad from what I hear, they are good units for the services, perhaps needing to have another coach attached...

I prefer the 170s to the 185s. They are both too small for the services they operate, but I think the 170s have a better ride, and are quieter as the exhausts are at the end of the coaches rather than in the middle like the 185s!

170s should ideally be 3 carriage, very stupid having 2 carriage DMUs going across the Pennines when a lot of the 3 car ones are full. I have heard that 170s have some reliablity problems, but they seem to be doing alright at the minute.

I don't know about tpe's in particular, but in my experience XC's are pretty damn reliable

I was talking to a guard one day at Huddersfield and he said he'd been on three or four recently (within about 3-4 months) that had engine problems.
