A current project of mine has inspired me to write this post. I wondered if any fellow members out there still have toys which they play with, despite having long outgrown them. Now, in comparison to most members, I'm quite young - but last week, I decided to make a purchase of an item you wouldn't generally consider at my age... Lego!

Currently, I am in the process of creating the Volkswagen T1 Campervan, and am really enjoying it: the last time I had a new lego set was at least 6 years ago. The set is that complex that it has 2 instruction manuals, each with 100 steps!



I thought I'd share some photos of the progress so far, with the bricks strewn across my lounge floor.

I'm trying to make myself go slowly, but it don't seem to be working.

Anyone else got any toys etc they'd like to share (or admit to) still using?

I have that VW however it's currently in the loft while we redo the upstairs. When you complete it you will be very happy it's very impressive!

I don't myself but I was constantly gutted on a recent round the world trip not to be able to afford or store/send home models of the planes I flew on. Especially VH-OEB which is a Qantas 744 painted in colours for the Melbourne Grand Prix and CC-CQF which is an LAN A343 painted for LAN's 80th anniversary.

I have a 1/72nd scale ( yes, 1/72nd ) Airfic Concorde which I will one day get round to assembling. Got things like a leaky roof to worry about at the moment, though ( thank you storms - NOT! )

Blimey, 1/72nd is pretty big for a passenger plane. Ha ha. That gives you a pretty decent size model of a fighter plane! Your guests better watch their eyes if that is hanging from the ceiling!

That makes the model nearly a metre long - I sure would put it somewhere where there's no chance of it being knocked!

Yes; it would likely end up hanging from a ceiling, probably in the study - definitely not anywhere where the wife and kids would be about!

I'm not ashamed to say I still enjoy building models and dioramas out of Lego. Although I never get chance to do it any more.
I have a Statue of Liberty model which is pretty cool, it stands at about 3ft tall when completed. I usually build it once a year, leave it out for a day or two before breaking it up again.

I am a keen model railway enthusiast although I wouldn't class my trains as toys. They're models, not toys!

Since I got some more free time this weekend, I managed to finish the model this morning - it got to the stage where I didn't want to finish it as then I'd have nothing to do, but at the same time, really wanted to see it done!

I am really pleased with the results and love the model; it makes me want a real one now.

That is quality mate. A chum of mine and his wife down in New Zealand just bought a real life bull nose one. Not sure if it is split windscreen or not.

I've got back into Lego after my g/f bought me the Camper, Technic F1 car & R2D2 for various birthdays.

I've had a real VW camper and they are great, very characterful and (to me) relaxing to drive, maybe because you can't get anywhere very fast!

Yes, got loads of that as our son has a few Airfix models. Amazing how many different paint numbers there are between all the models, yet when you look at them a lot of them are virtually the same as several others! ( SFX: Ripping noise ).

Some kits seem to come with small acrylics these days, but they just don't seem to paint as well as the enamels do. At least they dry quicker and you can wash the brush with water.
