I know you need decent binoculars to get anything - but what spec would anyone recommend that they have used and had good results?

Pretty much anything with reasonable optics should be fine - if you've got good eyesight some of the large EWS numbers are just about readable without aids, but you'll need something for the smaller DBC numbers (cabside or front) then bins are indeed necessary. I doubt you'll miss much very with anything 10x... except if you are trying to read some of the small numbers at an oblique angle or in the very far distance.

Thanks Guys - info much appreciated.
Last question - If I'm heading for "The Bank" where is the best place to park - and how far is the walk?

On the roundabout at the top of Banks Road... Address is Banks Road, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 6HQ - labeled on the link below Banks Road Open Space. The dotted lines to the left are the footpaths. They will be muddy at this time of year.

You can also walk down to the footbridge at the south end of the yard for photography of passing freights.
