It had a use by date of something like March 1998.

That's nothing - when we cleared my Grandma's house in 2001, after she moved into a home, we found a tine which had a price sticker on it (remember them!?) of something and a half pence. The 1/2p went out of circulation in 1984!

I made some with my housemates...personally I had some with sugar and some with toffee fudge sauce but also had one at uni earlier in the day with sugar and orange

We did look at getting pre-made ones as they were on offer at the Co-op but I decided it would be more fun to make them ourselves - didn't realise quite how easy the batter is to make up! Admittedly, the first one one of my housemates got resembled something like a pitta bread, but we eventually worked out the amount we needed to make something that wasn't so thick!

The problem is that you only make them once a year (well, most people do) so by next year you've totally forgotten and end up making another load of too thick or too thin pancakes.

Perhaps that's part of the fun - but for me it was ready made ones to be thrown in the microwave!!

My dad's got a loft full of things bought at a discount. Including Lux soap flakes with 1/2p off. He's had those as long as I can remember. He does use them but really not very often and I think he bought the best part of a container load (or maybe just something like 24 boxes).
