They are two parts of the same system but not the same thing. TOPS is for consists and TRUST is for schedules.

TRUST and tops complement each other rather than one being a watered down version of another. They are both used for different purposes and both can wreak havoc if one were to mess about in either system without knowing what they are doing.

There is an updated GUI version of tops called TOPS2000, but even this is not user freindly if you dont know what you are doing.

would you like to give me access codes and I will let you know how i get on with it ;)

On a train...somewhere!
Please pardon my ignorance I thought TRUST and TOPS where basically the same thing. It would appear a version of TRUST is available on line for some people.:-x

The version of TRUST used for inputting schedules and performance monitoring by TOCs and FOCs is a similar system to TOPS, rather unfriendly to the user and requiring lots of codes!!!

The LDB version is for seeing where a train or trains are at and (potentially) how late they are / why they are delayed. This is available for staff (such as traincrew at some if not all TOCs) for looking up services when on the go, access is through their company and requires both a user name and password.

There is a Staff version of the Live Departure boards which takes information from a number of systems, one of them being TRUST.

TRUST and TOPS are old IBM mainframe systems, and only accessible through an emulator called WinVV created by British Rail for British Rail. It runs off a modified Telnet system which makes it difficult and rather cumbersome to use. Think of a more complicated version of Windows Command Line.

They are two parts of the same system but not the same thing. TOPS is for consists and TRUST is for schedules.
I thought TSDB was for schedules and TRUST for comparing real time to scheduled time?

Apart from the Royal Train what trains are so special / sensitive that DB, DRS, Freightliner or the other operators don’t want each other to know about?

You would be suprised what people get up to with Industrial Espionage within the Rail Industry. One FOC a few years ago went to great lengths to find out how another FOC was finding out business critical information, and dismissed a senior manager when he was found to be the leak...
