Asking again about whereabouts of 70813 and 70816.

I am in Cardiff this weekend where I gather 70813 has/had spent most of the past week !. There were two or more 70s at Canton at about 00:30 this morning (Sat 17/06/17). The only two I could id were 70803 and 70806 - ironic !. But there was some other Colas liveried stuff there but could not id loco type through the dense fencing. A check later today in daylight revealed 70803 had gone, 70806 had not budged and the only other Colas liveried loco there was 56094 (or similar number). So I assume if 70813 was still there on Friday night that it has gone out for a bit of engineering work for the weekend - when might it return ?.

Any info appreciated and thanks for the previous info.

I'm afraid I don't have any info as to where they may be going next. (Some of) the ones that have headed off for engineering duties for the weekend may be back at the start of next week, but that's only an assumption...??


In terms of the other Colas locos you saw but couldn't identify, none of the Colas 56s (other than 56094 you ID'd), 60s or 67s were showing as being at Cardiff, and I'm pretty sure none of the 37s or 47s either, so I think what you'll have seen is some/all of those 70s that then headed up to Bescot - so you might have seen 813, but not been unable to ID it :-/

Thanks TimboM. Rather useful information even if tantalising !. I nearly went back to Canton a lot earlier in the morning but after a long Friday my guest bed held me down and my lift was similarly in-disposed. Its only a 20-ish minute walk though so I must try harder . I cannot complain as Canton produced most of the other newest Colas 70s for me last time I was in Cardiff.

I think I am down to an afternoon drive from Croydon to Hoo Junction aren't I !. The risk is that what I want is hidden there. In the 1970s I used to ride a bike there over the North downs from the top of Strood (dreaming of owning a car). But in those days it did not have a fence and gate. I can do the drive from Croydon fairly often but it is a lot of time and petrol without being sure that what I want is visible. I also think that, like most depots/yards, there is a lot more weeds/trees cluttering the place.

I am going to have a last look this Sunday evening about 19:00 before I head back to Croydon. That means it will arrive back soon after 19:00 :-x.

Yes, DVTs generally do even if locos don't, as they are part of a coaching stock rake.
