I'm assuming the answer to this is no, but just in case, is there any way a member of the public can access this data to save having to request it of people? It seems several people here have access to this information, but I wasn't sure if it was simply a case of making a request, or whether they have to have a legitimate reason for access, e.g. a job in the railway industry or something.
Thanks - I'd be making large requests like straller's regularly if it didn't require someone else put the effort in, but it doesn't seem fair otherwise. If anyone knows of a way I can pull up this sort of detail myself, even if a bit clunky, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'll carry on periodically posting here

I work for the railway so I use TRUST and WebGemini to find the bits that are requested.
I don't know of any publically available ways for non railway people to find out whats doing what, except post on here and ask! Try subscribing to some gen groups- RailUnlimited is good. TOPS lists get posted plenty of times a day on there which shows locos allocations and what they're working. They don't show passenger services though. Loco hauled passenger services, such as the sleepers & Greater Anglia hauled sets are allocated through a system called Genius, which some people have access to and do occasionally post gen on.

Unless you have access to the TRUST / TOPS system, then your only other place for allocations will be yahoo groups and hope that other people provide the information you are after ...
1S51 - XC05 with 43366 / 43301. This service was canx at EDB due to previous delays at Gloucester from the derailment and TM shortage ...

Dependant on the area you live there are several groups. Some are on Yahoo and others on Google.
Rail Unlimited if this is the one you are after then this is specifically a Google group ...

Thanks for the replies, I've become fairly adept at spotting numbers now when out and about, and I don't collect sightings for anything other than newly delivered stock anyway, so I think for the few occasions I do genuinely need it, I'll post here.
