Could anybody tell me what the Drs 57 on the Tesco train was that worked through Watford around 13.35-13.40 this afternoon (Friday 22nd) heading towards London. I've not been able to find the working on RTT or anything.

Could I have the unit number for today's 1120 1N92 Kings Cross - Sunderland please?
I wasn't expecting it to be a 180 and was too busy manouveuring my suitcase round the enormous pile of matchgoers to get the unit number. I can't see the car number from inside!

Worth bearing in mind for future reference, and I use it myself if I'm in a desperate hurry to jump on the train without having checking the unit number too, but if you find yourself without a unit number, check the number in black text above the connecting doors between carriages. It'll be something like 61530, then it's a simple matter of cross-referencing that with your NREA/ST Publications/Platform 5/AEB book and getting the number from that :)

That's an excellent tip.

You can get the unit for XC Voyagers by connecting to the WiFi (Even if not intending to pay and use it) and noting the train number on the front page.

I'll remember to test out on the next Voyager I get on, but I'll cross-reference it with my own sight of the number first just in case :) Thanks for that tip!

It is indeed a Voyager. The next service an hour later is a pendolino.

Coincidentally in the week this service is a Pendolino.

But yes, the above service will be a Voyager on that day.

I checked up on this for months, and without fail the number displayed was correct :)

The only inaccuracy I am aware of using this method is that on extendolinos the original 390/0 unit numbers are still being displayed instead of the revised 390/1.

Yes, they are. Was on 390127 a few weeks back, and it said 390027.

And indeed I do this regularly on classes where I know where the number is. Fortunately on my voyager trips 6 weeks back I spent some time in the vestibules so I could grab those. It doesn't really work for trains hauled by 91s or HSTs though!
