RTT doesn't say what is booked for a service. Only the timing load...

Which is the timing load. Steam does not have it's own timing load so will show as a diesel loco on RTT. It has nothing to do with what the service is booked to be.

so where do you go to find that out and what info do you use to get the info

To match locos with real headcodes on TOPs lists:

* You could join a fee-paying website where some/many of the random head codes are translated into the real ones, then match those with TOPs lists;
* As time passes you will know which head codes apply to the trains you most regularly see, so the matching becomes easier;
* Some detective work is often also required. You can use RTT to work out, by checking the time and place you see a loco, it's destination and starting-point.

i wouldnt pay any attention to that thats just timing loads also i would imagine the working would be hauled in by a diesel probably a class 67 which will be dead hauled on the rear

"Steam" doesn't exist on TRUST - so it'll always say "Diesel".

uksteam.info is a good site to check if you're looking for steam workings, or you think something like that Victoria one tomorrow might be steam-hauled. If you look at their mainline tours page http://www.uksteam.info/tours/trs17.htm you can see there's nothing showing for anything tomorrow; suggesting that the working is either not running, or is diesel hauled.
