Is there any data to suggest which stations are the most popular in the UK?

I've had a quick look, but I'm only able to find data that suggests popularity is based on numbers of people using the station.

By popular I'm thinking attractive, grand buildings and the like.


Any ideas?

Cant think of any official listing.

PTE areas have metrics for things like cleanliness and maintenence, not popularity.
Passenger Focus might have some statistics for station satisfaction?

In fact, Bayum, you've listed two of the possible criteria in your opening post. To some, the most attractive station might not be the one with the grandest buildings. It may simply be one that they ar emost familiar with, find easy to use, a simple layout, or soem other feature that appeals to them, like a bar selling real ale!

I would have thought that many would say the most popular stations on the network are those people use for pleasure, i.e. those in tourist destinations, with the least popular being those used for work, i.e. commuter stations.

York has a very good station pub. The rest of the station isn't bad either

I know that the two busiest stations outside London are Birmingham New Street and Glasgow Central, but I don't know of any complete lists. Most stations' Wikipedia pages have annual passenger counts though.

I'd say Glasgow Central is much higher on the "pretty list" than Birmingham New Street. Unless you go down to Central Low Level, with it's leaking roof, dark platform and funny smell.

Manchester Piccadilly . Ignore platform 13 and 14 and the upper concourse.
