How do you people have the time to make 20-40 posts per day? It's outrageous! I must say up in that list are some of my favourite posters and I always find most of them to have posts of a high quality and be informative, but I've been here over 6 months and you lot post in 1.5-2 weeks what I've posted in that time.

I have a feeling that although the postings that are made by members upon the various threads on the Quiz forum no longer are added to the posting totals of members in the section under their username in postings, these may still count in the "Top Posters" section that your link makes reference to.

Could any forum moderator or member clarify this point, please.

That's correct - Quiz forum posts still count towards the 'Top Posters' section of the forum

Well spotted....and I was away in Falmouth for part of that time.:roll:

There are two submissions for my defence:-

1) I am retired and have much more free time on my hands than the majority of forum members to indulge my interest in forum threads.

2) I make numerous postings upon different threads of the Quiz forum, that only require a brief answer. Some postings that are placed on the other sub-forum sections by members are long and detailed replies, that must take some considerable time to formulate, then post.

If I appear in the top posters table it is almost always to do with the quiz folder. For weeks on end I and the other mainstays of the Guess the Station thread dominated the leaderboard. I was in it yesterday, but that's because of an endless row about steam on the mainline that was going nowhere and I've now dropped out of. Should drop out of the top posters list as well.

I have to admit that I never even look at the quiz forum unless it is linked from another forum. I think this is because I'm here for the factual chat and information on fares and routeing + heritage railways mainly, not for trivia.

You'll get into it. At first I never went near it, but now I've probably racked up almost half my posts on the quiz forum, and almost all of those in two threads (Guess the Station and Guess the UK Train Class). You get sucked in and it becomes addictive.

Also, I am self employed which emans that when I am working on the PC I can keep the forum open and 'pop in' from time to time when I fancy a tea break or in between other things!

I did go into the quiz forum a fair bit last year, but I found I couldn't keep up with it!

I can remember that in autumn last year you were always quite high up in the post counts!

I've managed over a thousand in 28 days, the most I've ever done in one day is about 98. OxtedL is the record holder with 140+ in one day.....that's serious posting!

The counts all went down when Quiz Forum postings were removed the member counts themselves. One particular person lost over 3,000 posts...

That was the Guess the Station thread, which I wouldn't be surprised has the largest number of posts of any thread.

Yes, it's managed over one thousand pages of replies. Still going strong though!

Quantity vs. Quality comes into it too. Some people might make quick but fairly pointless remarks on lots of thread whilst others post less but generally post more detailed and useful replies. Not saying by any means that the top posters don't make a good contribution too or are just posting rubbish though.

I think the moderators are quick to pick up on "spam" when it occurs.

Then they can issue "Post deleted" notices. Another comment I like that they use is "Reason 16 - Adds nothing to topic"

I'm surprised I got onto yesterday's list, though I will say I currently have loads if time free as I'm on holiday - only 4 more days though

My post average is slowly creeping up though. At the start of July it was around 3.5; now it's about 5.5.

I would be interested to know how many reason there are in the moderating process. It reminds me of the old Morrisons adverts: "Reason number 21 to shop at Morrisons."

Well, some of it will be. There's a lot of things I still need to spend money on. The family holiday to Craig Tara at the end of the month (which the last day of I can't have off, so have to go to work and travel all the way back down from Ayr for it ) being one thing, alongside getting my laptop fixed or even getting a new one - still not decided yet - and eventually driving lessons and all that stuff when I can get the time to do it all.

I've recently got the Golden Growlers DVD, the Scottish Quail and a 10-pack of Mini DV tapes, with the new Baker ordered this morning off Amazon, so my list of required stuff is going down slowly! Got next Monday off (that is, not tomorrow but a week from then) so hoping to do the Isle of Wight. Having checked the pres line there is running that day, I just need to check fares and ensure the boss doesn't give me any extra work that day! All this overtime I'm doing will be helping a lot with funding bashes, that's for sure.

40 hours this week, going to be an exhausting 6 day week. But I digress, I'd best stop before I go even further off topic!

What about the rule that prevents the discussion of moderating decisions - do you approve of that ???

Yes thats discussion - normally part of a Democratic Process.

I've hit the top of both 7 day and 28 day charts - started quite a few threads but it's Goodnight Vienna

Sorry, what democratic process are we talking about here? This forum has never claimed to be a democracy. If you have an issue with the way we run the forum, there is a Contact Us link on every single page, or alternatively you can send a PM.

When all of us joined the forum, it was under the understanding that we would abide by the rules. No-one forces any of us to stay as forum members if we do not like the rules.

I just feel some of the decisions to remove posts are a little arbitary and perhaps should be open to scrutiny.

However as you say the rules are there in black and white

Amusingy I've had a few email auto-notifications which weren't quite the same as the contents of the actual reply in the thread when I got around to reading it!

Oh I forgot to say, I do appreciate the moderation... the "signal to noise ratio" here is far better than some other forums
